When Fall arrives, one of the first things we always look forward to is new Halloween specials and video releases. While 2013 feels like a really light year on that note, one new collection that's a must-have for little ones is THE HALLOWEEN COLLECTION: Volume 2, from the excellent, and ever-expanding Scholastic Storybook Treasures line from Weston Woods/Cinedigm/New Kideo. This 3-Disc DVD Box set features 14 classic tales ripe for the halloween season, and manages to encourage learning along with bringing the not-so-scary frights.
Here we are, a week into 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father, and today we've got something special... a pumpkin-y premiere from Chicago's finest purveyors of Kindie Punk Rock, THE BOOGERS. Streaming below is "I'm a Jack-O-Lantern," a brand-new Halloween anthem for 2013, that makes the perfect soundtrack for your pumpkin-carving this month. Ghosts... Ghouls... Witches... they'll run a mile when they see the Jack-O-Lantern's scary smile...
If you ever browse the off-the-mainpage "For Grownups" section of The Rock Father, you might've already seen me proclaim my allegiance for Sweden's GHOST (now known in the U.S. as "GHOST B.C." for "legal reasons) in recent months. They're hardly what I'd call "family friendly," which is why they'd normally not be featured right here on the mainpage... but we're in the midst of the Halloween season, and certain bands just fit right in. GHOST is one of them, and today they land at Day 6 on The Rock Father's 31 Days of Halloween 2013... not for their music, but for their hamburger. A spooky treat for Chicagoans to eat?
For Halloween this year, a pair of Kindie artists have come together for their first release as a duo. YOU AND ME AND THE RAIN finds Portland's LORI HENRIQUES and Los Angeles' TODD McHATTON getting seasonal on their first single, "For Halloween This Year." The single and it's accompanying D.I.Y video land at Day 5 on The Rock Father's 31 Days of Halloween 2013.
By 1988, the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise was a household name. Well on it's way to becoming more "camp" than "scares," the saga of the razor-gloved FREDDY KRUEGER had come a long way since being birthed by director WES CRAVEN back in 1984. With merchandising tie-ins, a 1-900 hotline number, and millions at the box office, it was only a matter of time before the series had a proper musical tie-in by established artists (unlike 1987's horrible FREDDY'S GREATEST HITS by "The Elm Street Group").
With the Fall Season comes the cooler weather and shorter days, which often means that indoor projects start happening with increased frequency. While building sets are a regular fixture of playtime here at Rock Father HQ, it always seems that we do more in Fall and Winter. In the spirit of the season, the folks at LEGO have a couple of exclusive sets for 2013 that make The Rock Father's 31 Days of Halloween for Day 3.
