THE ROCK FATHER™ has partnered with Life of Dad and Idahoan® Foods for this promotion. Is he the #KingOfSoup? That’s for you to decide…

I have a long-standing mission to eat better, and make more food at home. Over the past few years, I’ve gotten a lot better at it, learning to cook as I go, firing up the grill even in winter, and making a constant attempt to bring that restaurant flavor to the kitchen at Rock Father HQ. When my wife and I used to go out on a more frequent basis (the pre-parenting era), I was a big fan of steakhouses. Actually, I still am - but the trick was always that my wife is a non-meat-eater. She loves the potato soup, though, and until recently, I couldn’t properly pull it off at home… but that just changed.

An Hair-Raising Message from The Future...

THE ROCK FATHER has partnered with Life of Dad and Rogaine for the #FutureYou promotion.

The following message was sent via electronic letter to The Rock Father from The Rock Father of the Future...

Hello Me, meet the real me --

No, you're not dreaming. I'm you. You're me, and it's time we had a little talk. I'm from the future, and yes I greeted you (me) with a lyric from a song from 1992, but that's of no consequence right now. What might be a little more confusing is that I'm from your alternate future - the one you're not going to end up living because the conversation that we're having right now is going to negate that. Think of me as the "Future You" from alternate 1985, after the time machine got stolen and things ended up getting thrown out of whack. Don't worry, The Rock Daughters are fine. Addie has an incredibly successful family practice and Finn is doing fantastic at NASA. Jen is still on you to take better care of yourself, and yeah, the hair is an issue.

With the fall season officially here, the calendar has flipped to my favorite season of them all. The crisp autumn air comes with shorter days that make way for earlier, and seemingly darker nights that are filled with mystery. There’s just something about fall that brings a feeling that you never know what might be lurking in the shadows... especially as Halloween nears, and if superstition is to be believed, the lines between good and evil grow perilously thin. In the virtual world, there can also be unsavory creatures lurking in the depths of our devices, those who slipped through the cracks during visits to the internet that could’ve been better protected. Thankfully, the folks at AVG have a full suite of products available to protect your valuable gear from unseen evil…

They say to "pick your battles," but sometimes the war is right in front of you, raging on and on with no end in sight. For us here at Rock Father HQ, the garage is that war - and we've been fighting battles with it since we bought this house over six years ago. We have a lot of stuff, and since there's no basement, the garage is a multi-purpose room - a "facility" ("The Warehouse," as my dad once called it) used for storage, special projects, occasional video production, but largely the home to The Rock Daughters™' impressive fleet of vehicles and toys - like a Batcave or Q's lab, but for kids that are 4 & 7. Also factor in all the stuff we've been shoving out there for an eventual "mythical" garage sale that we can never seem to find time to make happen, and we have what to an outsider could look like some kind of hoarder situation - and it goes in cycles. The key to managing it is organization, and I first started tackling it back in 2014 when the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Garage Organization System first came out. I started getting one wall straightened out, but there's been much more to attack. One of the biggest problems with being able to properly organize the place and really maximize the use of space is that the previous homeowners created a terribly-designed mess of "shelving" (if you can call it that) made out of scrap wood and junk - and much of it was connected, so lose one piece, and another would be affected. This past weekend, my wife and I fought a mighty battle to get another section in-order, namely my workbench and the area that surrounds it. After a trip to The Home Depot (with Finley, who wanted to help with check-out), I had all the pieces that I needed to start dismantling the mess, and rebuild with the good stuff.

Back-to-School is still such a strange time of year around here - something that just seven years ago was decades behind us, and the thought of having one kid in school was unbelievable, much less having two. But now my wife and I do have two in school, and at the end of the month The Rock Daughters™ will be rockin' the halls once more. As our lives become busier with each passing year, and seemingly with each flip of the calendar, it's also incredible how much we depend on technology to hold it all together. Here at Rock Father HQ, my office PC is labeled with a Batcave-esque label that describes on the monitor exactly what it is: "THE ROCK FATHER - COMMAND CENTER." That HP desktop has been labeled as such for years, and my laptops are always a component of my "Mobile HQ" as I travel. Now it's time to tie the whole family into one, and for that we've added the HP Pavilion Liquid Platinum Gaming Laptop (15-AU010WM) to the arsenal - one of the all-new lineup of HP computers available at Walmart just in time for Back-to-School this year. It's a perfect machine for the entire family.

Laundry is such a double-edged sword... you have to do the laundry, but what does laundry ever do for you? Okay, trick question - because when your laundry looks good, you can look good... but what about the environment? With families like ours becoming more and more conscious about doing right by the world around us, we're always on the lookout for new products that not only make a kinder footprint, but those that actually work - ones that get the job done. NEW! Tide purclean is the first bio-based detergent with the cleaning power of Tide (and as many of you know, I've written about Tide in the past). So what's great about it? I'll tell ya...
