Lyric Video: HELMET - "Bad News"

Whenever I'm asked to name my favorite bands, one that's consistently in the Top Five is HELMET. Sure, the band has completely changed lineups over the years, but at its center, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Page Hamilton has remained. On October 28th, HELMET will release their first new album in six years, when DEAD TO THE WORLD hits the streets via earMUSIC, and today comes the first taste - a lyric video for "Bad News." It's not what one would think of as the "classic" HELMET sound, but it's still a song worth listening to. Check it out below...

Last night at dinner, my wife asked me "Why don't you post about stuff like this?," pointing to the new album by JIMMY EAT WORLD. Thing is, I have posted about the band (one of her favorites) in the past, but there is a little thing called "time" that I'm always up against. That said, when news hit my inbox this morning with a link to JIMMY EAT WORLD's latest lyric video, there was no way I could pass on posting it. Check out "Sure & Certain" below, then pick-up the new album INTEGRITY BLUES when it hits stores on October 21.

If you listen to SiriusXM Outlaw Country, you might've had a chance to catch JESSE DAYTON's new single, "Daddy Was A Badass" getting some virtual spins over the past few weeks. The track comes from Jesse's new album, THE REVEALER (previewed here), which will hit the streets on September 16 via Blue Elan Records. A lyric video has been released (see it below) and pre-orders are now live on the Blue Elan site (with exclusive offers) and all the usual spots like Amazon, iTunes, etc.

In a past life, I had a little bit of association with DAWN OF ASHES... some mutual friends in Robert Kurtzman's Creature Corps... and I witnessed the major change in the DOA stylings as they released one album and an EP through Metal Blade Records, eventually embarking on a tour with Dimmu Borgir. For a few years there was some question of identity, with the band switching to Metropolis Records and releasing what was thought to be their last album, leader Kristof Bathory announcing the retirement of DOA in 2013. Label and lineup changes endured, DAWN OF ASHES has risen again in 2016, with a new album THEOPHANY, set for a May 20th release... and to the surprise of some, it looks to be a combination of all the styles that DOA has performed in the past, from the electronic and industrial... to the metallic once more. Check out the lyric video for "Tribe of Chemosh."

ANTHRAX is closing out the week with the surprise release of the first single and lyric video from their forthcoming new album. "Evil Twin" (available now on Amazon & iTunes) takes on the political and religious extremism of recent years, an old-school throwback that comes off as a thematic companion to songs such as Megadeth's "Holy Wars."

I've covered a ton of family music here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine over the past few years, and in all of its various forms, it's been Kindie (Kids + Indie Rock) that's generally been the best of the bunch. I'd actually mentioned the possibility of creating a "Kindie Metal" project on a few occasions, but last night (thanks to my friend Demetri) I found out that someone has gone ahead and done it. SHARKY SHARKY is a guitar-heavy Kindie Metal band out of Aberdeen, Scotland. Rumor has it, they may or may not have something to do with UK Power Metallers, ASCENSION, and their new lyric video for "Jake the Jellyfish" has just been released. I'm telling you right now - Kindie Metal is the future of family music, and something that I look forward to seeing more of - a new genre that I will champion. Check it out below...
