THE ROCK FATHER™ has partnered with Life of Dad and STOUFFER’S® as a paid Ambassador for the #FitKitchen promotion. As always, opinions are that of James Zahn, though sometimes influenced by his kids.
THE "WINGMAN": Over the years, that term has meant many things to many people, often conjuring images of action - "Top Gun" fighter pilots flanked by other members of their squadron, heading into battle... or sometimes it's that same level of back-up while vying for the attraction of another - like the silly friend in a romantic comedy. Here in Illinois (especially this close to Chicago), it's a totally different life movie, and sometimes a good Wingman is simply an "associate" - something I can assure you that I know nothing about. No matter what the specifics, being a Wingman means being there for support, and right now I have a new Wingman here in my kitchen at Rock Father HQ - STOUFFER’S® Fit Kitchen Meals. Now, if you've been following me on Instagram (and if you're not, it would be a lot cooler if you did), you've probably seen one of the #AtTheGym selfies I've been posting late at night over the past 18 months. I've been on a mission to get into better shape, and eating better is a big part of that. That's where STOUFFER’S® Fit Kitchen steps-up to assist...

"Which house will have the best #Treats4All this year?" Well, Rock Father HQ is looking pretty good right about now. In fact, it's become sort of a tradition here to break out the treats just for our family for a little pre-Halloween cheer, and that was the case this weekend as we got our Fall and Halloween decor going up in full-effect. I'm always playing with new ideas, and as much as I'd love to do "scary," we tend to end up leaning "cute" to welcome Trick or Treaters to our home each October. Come that glorious day (which is actually taking place on October 26 in our party-pooping town), all the little ghosts and ghouls will get a chance to score some good candy like Butterfinger, Nestle Crunch and Baby Ruth.
It's December 10, and already, I'm exhausted. Regardless of the fact that I love the Holiday season, what I don't love is the amount of running around and what feels like a mad scramble, despite all the preparation. With it getting dark at 4pm, my wife working long hours (sometimes not home until 8), and the cold temperatures (it's 13 degrees as I write this), the days just feel shorter as it is, and I'm always looking for ways to ease the stress, expedite the process of certain things, and keep those warm feelings going... sometimes while multi-tasking. It's not always easy when I'm doing the balancing act between working at home and taking care of my two little girls, but it can be done. If there's one month where I could use some help making family size meals a little quicker, it's December.
It's officially Day 21 of 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father, and what that means is that we're in the homestretch as we make our way toward the best day of the year... October 31, 2013. As we wind down the month, the Halloween Parties will be increasing in frequency, and whether planned or impromptu, there's a lot of fun ways to incorporate a Spook-tacular theme without having to crack the crypt for extra bones. With Tombstone ("The Official Pizza of Halloween!") and Nestle, we turned an early-evening dinner into a super-rockin' Halloween Party, complete with Pentagram Pizza, Monster Treat Cups and Kids' Graveyard Cake... and you can do this, too!
One of the best things about being a Dad is experiencing "firsts" with my daughters. Beyond the usual milestones that everyone seems to think of, it's the little things that always seem to matter most... the first time listening to music on vinyl... the first time we planted seeds together in our garden. Little things that make for BIG memories. With my oldest almost four and my youngest just-turned one, I recently realized that there's certain "firsts" that I'll be able to experience twice. It really hit me as Baby Finley started hitting firsts that I experienced with Addie just a few years ago. This past weekend, Addie and I shared something that I can look forward to sharing with Finn in a few years: A first Root Beer Float made with Edy's Ice Cream and A&W Root Beer.
