I certainly do miss the heyday of Harmonix's Rock Band franchise, and it's certainly weird to think that 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the series. In stranger terms, the game has been around for a quarter of my life. That said, the February DLC has been announced, leading off with Twisted Sister and Ratt coming to Rock Band Rivals, perfect for the newly-released Quick Play mode. "I Wanna Rock" and "Round and Round" are available on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for $1.99 per track. Check out a preview below, along with the full lineup of new songs for the month...

The rumors are true. As I speculated back in January, ROCK BAND 4 is real, and it's coming in 2015. The game franchise that became the reason I got an Xbox 360 (thanks, Jen!) and learned to drum (modestly) is now going to be the game that becomes the reason I end up getting Microsoft's XBOX ONE. More details will be revealed in May (expect a Fall release, if not sooner), but I have the full announcement from Harmonix, who is partnering with Mad Catz for the new game. Check it out!

Could Harmonix really be releasing the "next-gen" version of ROCK BAND this year? Rumors have been swirling since last fall that ROCK BAND 4 (though that may not be the title) is in-the-works, and last week it appeared that the waters were being tested when the ROCK BAND Music Store on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 "sprung to life" after nearly two years of dormancy following the final DLC release back in April of 2013 (which I wrote about here). New tracks from AVENGED SEVENFOLD and ARCTIC MONKEYS arrived for ROCK BAND alongside FOO FIGHTERS' "Something From Nothing" (aka the "Chicago" song from SONIC HIGHWAYS), presented in the classic vocals/guitar/bass/drums format of earlier releases. So the question is... do YOU want a new ROCK BAND game? And if so, would you make your voice heard?

It's times like this that I actually wish I had an iOS device floating around. You see, Harmonix - makers of ROCK BAND (one of my favorite game franchises of all-time), and SuperVillain Studios have released a new, "Freemium" App (free to download, with paid, in-app purchases available) called RECORD RUN. The game uses songs from your music library to build levels in which you have to run through a city, collecting records and backstage passes while avoiding obstacles and racking up points. Check out a trailer below...

Today is the day that I've been mentioning with every ROCK BAND DLC update for the past couple of months. After more than five years... 281 consecutive weeks... April 2, 2013 will be remembered as "The Day the Music Died." With the addition of DON McLEAN's 1971 hit "American Pie," weekly DLC for the ROCK BAND platform of games comes to an end, and Harmonix just hit The Rock Father with a special, 4-minute video entitled THE STORY OF ROCK BAND. Watch it below.

It's the next-to-last week for regularly-scheduled DLC on the ROCK BAND platform as Harmonix wraps things up after more than five years of weekly rock. For those of you still rocking the plastic instruments, CHEVELLE makes their ROCK BAND debut with a trio of tracks. Interestingly enough, these guys hail from a location very close to Rock Father HQ (they even played a local show in Arlington Heights at H.O.M.E. tonight), and back when their album WONDER WHAT'S NEXT came out in 2002, I personally sold a bunch of copies to their families at the Sam Goody store I used to run. Good memories from a time when the music business was still a business fun.
