General Mills Monster Cereals

When it comes to deliciously-demonic munchies and sinfully-sweet snacks, there's no better time of year than Fall to get my supernatural groove on. I'm a huge fan of General Mills' Monster Cereals - so much that I've written about them every Halloween for nearly a decade, with at least six posts appearing right here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. When Count Chocula®, Boo Berry® and Franken Berry® emerge from their Crypt, it's cause for celebration - a true throwback to my own childhood growing up in the late 70s/early 80s! The difference is that now I'm enjoying them with a family of my own, and my love of these cereals goes beyond breakfast. They can be used as fun snacks, and sometimes it's totally acceptable to play with your food... or just the box it came in.

There's a small percentage of folks out there who might gripe that it's "too early" to be thinking about... writing about... or encouraging the purchase of Holiday decor. Those people are wrong, and I can tell you this from a "past life" working retail, and from my longtime work in the music business. Holiday action in October is not a new thing - heck, even the famous CHRISTMAS ALBUM by ELVIS PRESLEY was released on October 15, 1957! Fact is, if you want the good stuff, you need to plan ahead and act early, and that's exactly why my annual Holiday Wish Guide is rolling out now on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. This year, I've partnered with US Family Guide and Fisherman Creations to help spread the word about Crab Pot Christmas Trees - incredible, MADE IN THE USA decorations that are visible and sparkling from any angle.  Readers of THE ROCK FATHER can get 20% off and FREE Shipping with promo code USFG right now at CrabPotTrees.com! See them in-action below...

It's Fall, and with my favorite time of year comes some changes in habits - and, a few that are just seasonal alterations to the regular routine. Living in The Midwest, October brings a vibe that's unlike other areas of the country during this season. While the crisp air, harvest aromas and oodles of seasonal fun can be found in many parts of the U.S., it always seems that The Midwest becomes a bit darker... and a bit spookier. There's a good reason why so many horror movies are set in The Midwest, and right here in my home State of Illinois - they're rooted in reality! Michael Myers? Haddonfield, Illinois. Crystal Lake? There is one. Elm Street? Lots of 'em. POLTERGEIST III, CANDYMAN and CHILD'S PLAY? All set in Illinois. You want to survive October in The Land of Lincoln? I'll give you five essentials - but keep in mind that these are great tools to use no matter where you might roam... It's werewolf season.

Every time I sit down to pen one of these Back-to-School posts, I still find myself tripping over the fact that we're going to have a first grader and a pre-preschooler this year. We start late compared to some (end of the month), so there's still a little bit of ramp-up time, but I'm getting things in order. My toolkit of essentials is robust, but I'm throwing down five of my top picks right here on the site - from fuel for the day to grooming, rock to play. Check this out...

Made to Matter: Handpicked by TargetTHE ROCK FATHER has partnered with Life of Dad and KIND Snacks for this promotion. Why? Because he likes to work with people that rock, and they both do.

While our family has things pretty good, one thing we tend to lack on is outdoor adventure time as a complete unit of four. Scheduling is the main issue, between my wife's career and my work (which has changed a bit to where I'm a work-at-home-dad about 80% of the time), the The Rock Daughters™' school and now summer activities. There is always something going on, and while we have a pretty great life, there's a lot of adventures that tend to take place as a unit of three - with my wife and I flip-flopping the "parent at the helm" duties. The biggest challenge of every adventure is simply getting all four of us together at once and without something that "has to be done." That's why I was thrilled to partner with Life of Dad and KIND Snacks on their #KINDMilesMatter campaign - an effort to spend some family time logging some miles on foot, with the folks at KIND donating a box of snacks per mile for an organization of our choosing. Thing is, even here my schedule jammed me up. We were supposed to log miles between June 20 and July 6, and guess what? I was traveling for work for the entire first week of that (a rarity to be gone so long in one run), but it had to be done.
