Awhile back, I posted a giveaway here on The Rock Father that came with a unique method of entry. Instead of just throwing up an entry widget or taking a "like" or a "follow" for the a chance at a prize, I took a cue from the prize itself to accept entries. BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD has garnered four Academy Award Nominations in addition to numerous other noms and wins over the past few months. Since it's a story about life lessons passed from Father to Child, I asked readers to submit to me a story of a lesson that they've learned, or one they've passed onto their children. I chose two winners, each of which will soon receive a copy of BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD on Blu-Ray, courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. And now, the winning submissions...
The Fifty-Seventh Presidential Inauguration will take place on January 21, 2013 as Barack Obama and Joe Biden take the stand on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to be sworn in for their second term as President and Vice President of The United States of America. To celebrate this representation of renewal and continuity of leadership, The Rock Father has partnered with Disney to give one lucky reader a Disney American Presidents Prize Pack!
Ever since I started doing The Rock Father as my full-time web presence, I've noticed a few things in the blogosphere that bug the hell out of me. For the most part, I just ignore the little quips and move along without saying anything, but now the time has come to reveal the biggest gripe I have... the classic "Review and Giveaway." Let me tell you something, fellow bloggers: the words "review" and "giveaway" should NEVER be used together. Parenting bloggers (Mommy Bloggers, Daddy Bloggers, etc.) are the worst offenders.
I don't cover much sports here on The Rock Father, so it's pretty fitting that when I do there has to be something rock involved. Case-in-point? NBA BALLER BEATS by Majesco Entertainment. This new video game for KINECT on XBOX 360 is sort of a rhythm game akin to ROCK BAND or GUITAR HERO, but one that uses real basketball skills - and a real ball - to keep the beat along with 30 songs from top artists in hip-hop, rock, and more. You've got music, you've got sports, and you're active while playing. Personally, I wanted to try this out myself, but since we do not yet have a Kinect here at Rock Father HQ, the folks at Majesco have agreed that I can hook up one lucky reader with a copy of the game - complete with an NBA Ball Replica from Spalding!
Can you believe it's only 21 days until Christmas? I can't, and something tells me that these next three weeks will be flying by faster than a reindeer-powered sleigh full of toys. When I was a kid, I'd always look forward to the possibility of some new TRANSFORMERS under the tree, and another thing I always dug was building bricks. Now, 25+ years later, the folks at Hasbro have combined both of those into a new line of KRE-O TRANSFORMERS that are ready to "roll out" for the kids of 2012. How would you like to win a set?
On Monday, December 3, CURIOUS GEORGE, television's number one series for preschoolers, kicks-off it's seventh season with a trip to Australia and an appearance by Bindi Irwin, animal conservationist and daughter of the late "Crocodile Hunter," Steve Irwin. Airing on PBS Kids (check local listings for times), the season premiere will be followed by two more brand-new episodes airing Tuesday and Wednesday, December 4-5. To celebrate the new season, STRIDE RITE (a proud sponsor of Curious George) has provided The Rock Father with a $50 Gift Card that one lucky reader will receive!
