Bachmann TrainsI have to admit, I was having some serious childhood flashbacks when putting together our new Bachmann Trains Mountain Master HO Scale Ready-to-Run Train Set earlier this month. Exclusive to Menards stores this holiday season, this 155-piece set is everything you need to get your kids started with electric trains, and a set that's a lot of fun for grownups as well, thus gaining it a spot in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide here on The Rock Father.

See the train in-action:

When I was a kid, I had Bachmann Trains' Santa Fe Flyer (or some variation of it), and remember heading over to the local "Sports & Hobbies" store in Park Forest, Illnois to get accessories and supplies. Fast-forward three decades, and here I am, putting this set together with my oldest daughter, who is much younger than the suggested age of 14+ (as is the case for all electric trains), but under parental supervision - it's cool. With all the vehicular play that goes on here at Rock Father HQ, a train was something that was missing, and as you can see in the video above, is very much enjoyed and appreciated.

mountainmasterboxWhile Addie and I did play with them for a bit, we opted against using all of our small accessory pieces on the floor since I do have a toddler roaming around here as well. That said, the "Plasticville" train station and signal bridge are pretty cool, though I would highly-recommend securing them together with some glue or modeling cement for a more permanent display.
