Holiday Wish GuideReleased for the first-time-ever on Blu-ray this Fall in an 8-disc Complete Series box set, along with a 4-disc Complete Seasons One & Two DVD set (which I have) Pee-wee’s Playhouse is just as delightfully bizarre as you probably remember it from the first time around... perhaps even more so. Riding the retro wave, Pee-wee Herman and friends look better-than-ever, fully remastered from the original film elements in painstaking detail by the team at Shout! Factory. Re-watching the show as a parent nearly 30 years later (I watched it regularly when it made it's debut on CBS in 1986), it's interesting to see just how Paul Reubens managed to work kid-friendly, positive messages and even educational elements (Pee-wee ended up doing a guest shot on SESAME STREET) into the zany confines of the Playhouse - racking up numerous awards, including nearly two dozen EMMYS.

Rock Father Approved! While I've been enjoying Pee-wee's Playhouse here in my office for some late-night viewing, I did show the girls a couple of episodes and found Addie (my oldest) quite captivated at age 5. I wouldn't recommend a full-on binge for the children of 2014 (I limit screen time, anyway), but Pee-wee's Playhouse is a ton of fun, and a Rock Father-approved addition to my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide.

Available from Shout! Factory, Amazon and other retailers.
