My favorite time of year is almost here, and PBS KIDS is once again rolling out some stellar Halloween-themed programming throughout the month of October.
ODD SQUAD is toplining things this year with a new one-hour special entitled, ODD SQUAD: AGAINST THE ODDS, and there's a bunch of Halloween favorite episodes of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD, CURIOUS GEORGE, PEG + CAT, CAILLOU and more coming back. Check out the full details below...
It's a BIG week for PBS KIDS, as the Holiday season officially launches on November 26th with the perennial favorite, CURIOUS GEORGE: A Very Monkey Christmas on PBS stations nationwide. It also marks the long-awaited debut of ODD SQUAD, the all-new live-action math series for kids, along with gearing-up for holiday-themed episodes from favorites like PEG + CAT, THOMAS & FRIENDS, DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD and more in the weeks ahead. Check out the full programming rundown and previews below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...
As of today, kids can meet the ODD SQUAD and start getting a jump on those math skills. Previewed this past May at the PBS Annual Meeting in San Francisco (I was there) ODD SQUAD will premiere November 26 on PBS stations, but families can now enjoy six full-length 11-minute “Case Files” from the series, as well as many additional clips that include profiles of the agents, agent training videos, recruitment videos and more, are now available for free on pbskids.org, the PBS KIDS Video App, and PBS KIDS on Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire. In addition, two games and parent resources are now available on the series’ website.
As I wrap-up my time here in San Francisco, reporting back from the PBS Annual Meeting, I'm mulling over a gigantic, and impressive slate of programming for the year ahead (and beyond) from both PBS KIDS and For Grownups. While there will be much to discuss in the months ahead, the star of the show on the PBS KIDS front is ODD SQUAD, the new, live-action series for kids that I first posted about here on THE ROCK FATHER back in January. Here at the meeting, it was confirmed that ODD SQUAD will premiere on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 on PBS KIDS with a special one-hour broadcast of two back-to-back episodes that follow the adventures of two young government agents, Olive and Otto, who use math skills and collaboration to investigate weird and unusual phenomena.
The 2014 Rock Father Tour hits the road and takes to the sky again this week, as I head back to the West Coast on another adventure. One of the best parts of my job is a side-gig that I've had with PBS as a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent). Having written about PBS programming for quite awhile before we made any kind of formal connection, it's been a real honor to work the the folks from PBS KIDS over the past two years, helping to spread the word about quality, educational programming. Last year was the first year that I'd been invited to attend the PBS Annual Meeting (then in Miami), and this year I've been invited back, as we "get the band back together" and hit the streets of San Francisco to get the rundown and game plan for the next year of PBS programming and events.
My friends over at PBS KIDS just made a big announcement about a brand-new series from Sinking Ship Entertainment and The Fred Rogers Company. Created by Tim McKeon (Fosterʼs Home for Imaginary Friends, Adventure Time, The Electric Company) and Adam Peltzman (The Electric Company, The Backyardigans, Wallykazam!), ODD SQUAD is a live-action transmedia property geared toward helping kids ages 5-8 learn math. The series will focus on two young agents, Olive and Otto, who serve as part of the ODD SQUAD, solving cases that rank among the unusual. Within each case, a math concept will be presented.
