THE MATERIAL have been deemed "Buzzworthy" by MTV, with frontwoman Colleen D'Agostino praised for her "towering rock vocals [that] land between [Paramore's] Hayley Williams and Evanescence's Amy Lee." Now, rock fans on the West Coast will get to experience THE MATERIAL doing what they do best when they hit the road in support of the RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS for a brief tour that kicks off this coming Saturday. Check out the dates below, along with their new video for "Life Vest."
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS are hitting the road with new frontman, CHESTER BENNINGTON (LINKIN PARK). Billed as "Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington" (reminds me of the whole "Sublime with Rome" thing), the band will head out with FILTER in support. Additionally, the band has announced a new EP for this fall, to be released by the band's own label, with distribution through ADA. Back in 1993, I interviewed drummer Eric Kretz and guitarist Dean DeLeo at the Palmer Auditorium in Davenport, Iowa. The band was touring in support of CORE, while opening for MEGADETH. I need to unearth that video of a 16-year-old me rockin' it with those guys. I also have a great story about Scott Weiland from that night, along with some photos I shot on 35mm (my first time in a photo pit). We'll save all of that for another day, but in the meantime, check out the STP tour dates...
ANDREW W.K. is experiencing a "renaissance" of sorts. 2013 has been a very good year for the party expert, and today brings news that takes the year to even greater heights: ANDREW W.K. will be the exclusive opening act for BLACK SABBATH as they tour North America in support of their just-released album, 13. Andrew will open each show with a DJ set as he "promises to spin a rabble-rousing selection of classic riffs, heavy jams, and crowd pleasing favorites spanning every era of hard rock and metal."
The HOUSE OF BLUES 20th Anniversary Tour gets started on June 26, and it's HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD in the headline spot. On for support will be ESCAPE THE FATE and ALL HAIL THE YETI. Dates for the full trek can be found below, with additional details and ticket info posted on the Hollywood Undead Facebook Page. The band is touring in support of NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND, which was released this past January. A new video for "Dead Bite" has been promised for the near future (a lyric video was released last fall).
After genre-hopping for nearly a quarter century, on July 16, Oregon's CHERRY POPPIN' DADDIES will release WHITE TEETH, BLACK THOUGHTS, their first album of swing/jazz-fueled jams since the success of ZOOT SUIT RIOT in the late 90s. In support of the new, double-album, the band has announced a string of summer tour dates. Check out the full itinerary below, along with the music video for their new song, "I Love American Music." The new album can be pre-ordered right now through CPD's official site.
Before I became a parent, I dreaded THE WIGGLES... and it wasn't because of anything that The Wiggles did. It was because of some parents I'd run across that made The Wiggles sound like a terrible plague that had infected their children. In fact, I think it was a trendy thing to do - to knock The Wiggles - much like some of the hangers-on that bash Caillou just to be a part of the in-crowd. Truth be told, there's good reason why The Wiggles are such a Global phenomenon: They've written some great pop songs... and if you don't believe me, check out ReWiggled - A Tribute to The Wiggles. There's some gems that transcend genres, and if The Living End covering "Hot Potato" doesn't snag you, check out Oh Mercy doing "Toot, Toot, Chugga, Chugga Big Red Car." Now, in 2013 - I have a Wiggle-loving little one (and a baby who will probably rock some Wiggles), and the Australian supergroup has been re-energized with a new lineup for a new generation. From August-October, North American Audiences will get their first taste of the new show first-hand when THE WIGGLES - TAKING OFF! Tour arrives.
