The world of SKYLANDERS is massive... especially for those that are actively immersed in the popular games from Activision and their associated collectible figurines that have crossed over into the toy aisle. From a financial standpoint, I'm lucky that SKYLANDERS hasn't caught on here at Rock Father HQ, despite my reviewing SPYRO'S ADVENTURE, the first game in the series back in 2011. Aside from that game and a couple of Happy Meal Toys that infiltrated our home at some point, we'd been largely SKYLANDERS-free until the folks at MEGA Bloks sent over their new ARKEYAN ROBOT KING Building Set for review in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house and yard). A little preview of things to come since SKYLANDERS: SWAP FORCE is being released this Fall?
Little Finley is just 14-months-old as of this writing, and like her big sister, she's already displaying a serious affection for all-things wheeled. I officially have two little ones that love their cars and trucks, and as such, both girls were pretty excited when the folks from MEGA BLOKS sent over Firetruck Finn, a new addition to their First Builders line. Aimed at ages 1-5, Firetruck Finn is a sizable, durable fire truck, that comes complete with fourteen building blocks and a Block Buddies Firefighter. How did it fare in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house and neighborhood)? Let's find out...
Earlier this year, a package arrived here at Rock Father HQ containing two ShtankOut! Plush Toys. But were they really "toys," or are they a deodorizer? It's a strange concept that brings a few different elements into a new product, self-described as an "adorable plush clip-on toy that doubles as an odor eliminator – Perfect for smelly sports bags, lockers, backpacks and more." So what's the reality as experienced here in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house)?
This is a mean-looking ride. From Toy State's DUB Garage Collection (created with the crew from DUB Magazine) comes the BEAT MAKERZ Dub Edition l331 Muscle Car. One of these free-wheeling toy cars recently arrived for testing in in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house, yard, sidewalk), and now it's time to share some thoughts on it.
"I buried him. I buried the little boy, Daddy. Now his truck has to come rescue him." That's what my daughter, Addie said to me last week as she played with her GEAR HEADS ADVENTURE Desert Digger in the sandbox here at Rock Father HQ. The "little boy" she was mentioning was actually the very Playmobil-esque action figure that comes with this set, a sort of archaeologist that drives a machine outfitted for expeditions in harsh terrain. Sent by Toy State to undergo a series of performance tests in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house, yard, sandbox), this is our first encounter with the GEAR HEADS line.
We know a thing or two about James Bond. Sure, my name sounds a bit like the famous spy of the Ian Fleming novels and twenty-plus films, but that's not it. I've just watched the movies a bit (though I still need to see SKYFALL), and I recently introduced my little ones to the vehicular side of Bond through a visit to the Volo Auto Museum. Addie took a liking to the Aston Martin Vanquish that was featured in DIE ANOTHER DAY, and not long ago, the folks from Toy State sent us one of their Aston Martin DBS QUANTUM OF SOLACE Editions to test drive here in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house, yard, sidewalk). Truth be told, I'm sort of an Aston Martin fan in general, so this was a fun ride to check out.
