Time flies, but it's already been more than two years since our first trip to JURASSIC WORLD. Now, we're in for a return on June 22, 2018, and the first trailer for JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM has arrived. In this new adventure, a rescue mission is in order as the dinosaurs find themselves in danger of extinction once more, opening new debate to what kind of protection these genetically-resurrected animals should be entitled to. Check out the trailer below!
We've had an unusually great season for Holiday Music this year - a welcome flood of new tunes that follow a bit of a drought in the festive fare. The Rock Father's 2017 Ultimate Guide to New Release Holiday Music and Movies continues to grow as we approach Christmas, and today there's a new addition - a rocked-up version of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," as performed by Pennsylvania's SMALL TOWN TITANS. See the video below and crank it up!
This past weekend, Disney and Lucasfilm played host to the global media event for STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. The cast and crew gathered in downtown L.A. to meet with press, and one group was an in-house team - namely, THE STAR WARS SHOW. Today their latest episode was released, and hosts Anthony Carboni and Andi Gutierrez sit down with director Rian Johnson, along with John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Oscar Issac, Kelly Marie Tran, Domhnall Gleeson, and Mark Hamill. Who knew that Kylo Ren was "a big Christmas guy?" According to Adam Driver, Kylo is all about "the giving." That's not a huge surprise, as you can purchase a Kylo Ren Nutcracker, so that's pretty festive. Check out the latest episode of THE STAR WARS SHOW below...
When I think of Reggie and the Full Effect, I'm often transported back to a different time - a time during my days at Sam Goody when the "emo" scene was really taking hold. It's been a long time, and now the band has announced their forthcoming, 7th studio album, 41, set for release on February 23rd, 2018 via Pure Noise Records. Along with the announcement comes the debut of a new song entitled "The Horrible Year." Listen below...
It seems that I can't escape HANSON this week. Just yesterday, I was at O'Hare airport in Chicago, catching an early morning American Airlines flight to Los Angeles. On that flight were three familiar brothers and their band - fresh from a pair of shows at Chicago's House of Blues. In fact, I noted on Twitter that we'd even taken what was essentially the same picture - something you just have to do at O'Hare during the holidays, a Chicago tradition that recalls Home Alone. Today the first press release to hit my inbox was from HANSON's camp, spreading the word of their new music video and upcoming appearances. "Finally It's Christmas" is the title track from the group's second holiday album, one that's featured on my 2017 Ultimate Guide to New Release Holiday Music. See it below!
At our house, it seems like JoJo Siwa came out of nowhere, and that was evident on a recent trip to Walmart when The Rock Daughters™ were scoping her merch and telling us "that's the girl we watch on YouTube." Indeed, her power is mighty, and that's backed by 20 million social media followers (her dog even has a million followers on Instagram). Now, the newest Nickelodeon star is bursting onto DVD with the Walmart exclusive special release of JoJo Siwa: My World. This special DVD release from Nickelodeon Home Entertainment contains JoJo’s first-ever concert special as well as behind-the-scenes content with JoJo herself. JoJo takes fans on a journey through all of the moments of her life that have led her to her very own concert performance at Mall of America. As part of my Holiday Wish Guide™ Giveaway series here on The Rock Father™ Magazine, I've teamed-up with Nickelodeon to give you a shot at winning JoJo's new DVD!
At the end of J.J. Abrams' 2015 film, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, the world witnessed the return of a Jedi Master... Luke Skywalker. Stoic and silent, the film ended on what Mark Hamill calls "a literal cliffhanger," and on December 15, audiences will see the story pick up right where we left off when Rian Johnson's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI hits screens. This story has nothing to do with either of those films, but much to do it has with the return of another Jedi Master... Yoda. Last seen on the big screen in 1983's RETURN OF THE JEDI, it is of course possible that the little muppet may return for THE LAST JEDI (spoiler?), but it's Recess Monkey's Jack Forman that has brought him back first. Listeners to Sirius XM's Kids Place Live have been loving "Yodeling Yoda," and now we have a music video to go with it. Wampas? FX-7 Medical Droid? Vintage action figures from the Kenner Star Wars collection? Oh yes, they're all here, right alongside Forman as he does his best to train in the swamps of Dagobah... or somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Listen and watch, you will!

Have you ever had the feeling that you're constantly chasing something that can't be caught? It took me years to figure it out, but it finally hit me a few weeks ago that I have been. I've been chasing a feeling of holiday magic that I've hoped to recapture from my youth, but it can't be recaptured. Now, the holidays are a time for my wife and I to help our daughters experience that magic - something to be cherished, as it's never the same once you grow up. While a moment of clarity has come over my adult quest to catch that spirit once more, the one thing I can catch is a cold, and for that I'm always fighting! Our family has places to go and people to see, and when you have to rock the holidays over and over again, the worst thing to do is to let yourself get sick for very long. Zicam® Cold Remedy Medicated Fruit Drops help me get back on my game faster to ensure that #RockFatherSanta is always ready to go!
As the December 15 release date for STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI approaches, we're now getting more new looks at some fresh material from a galaxy far, far away. In a new "training" featurette, the cast gets ready for what promises to be a new era of epic battles with lightsabers, staffs, and even hand-to-hand combat. Check it out below...
In addition to my work here on The Rock Father™ Magazine, I veer off in many directions. As some of you may know, I am a member of The Toy Insider's extended family - contributing to their website as a member of their Parent Advisory Board, and a frequent participant in their excellent toy-based Twitter Parties. When it comes to the holiday season, you'd be hard-pressed to find a Holiday Gift Guide as expansive as the one that The Toy Insider puts together, one that exists in print (together with Family Circle) and online, with selections chosen by a team of experts and sorted by age and interest. Even I chip in with a "Rock Father Pick!" Now, despite the fact that we're often swimming in toys here at Rock Father HQ (much of which we donate), my girls do have a small "wish list," and with that The Toy Insider sent a surprise. In fact, all of the Toy Insider parents received a mystery box, and with ours we did a little early preview of Christmas morning here at home. With just four items, the response from all girls is all that a parent could hope for - and one that makes me really think about the "less is more" approach to Christmas. A few well-targeted gifts will beat the "piles of stuff" any day, and the video below shows just that. Take a look at the video, and then read on for some thoughts on these four Hot Holiday Picks!
The holiday season brings with it a host of magical experiences and opportunities to make family memories that will last a lifetime. At the pinnacle comes the annual visit with Santa Claus, and this year the folks at HGTV and Macerich Shopping Centers have teamed-up for an all-new experience aimed at bringing holiday magic to kids and grownups alike with some flourishes that have been upgraded for the social media age. HGTV presents Santa HQ - open now at 15 different locations, including the Fashion Outlets of Chicago in Rosemont, Illinois - not far from Rock Father™ HQ! My wife and I recently took The Rock Daughters™ to visit Santa HQ first-hand, and you're going to want to schedule a visit, too!
One of the best toy lines out there for kids ages 3-8 comes from Mattel's Fisher-Price. Imaginext are exciting, themed toys that are age-appropriate for a younger audience that craves action and adventure, but they're crafted to aid in development. Little ones can feel like a "big kid," while exploring colorful worlds through incredibly detailed figures, playsets, vehicles and accessories. We first got into Imaginext a couple years back when our youngest daughter asked Santa for "a Space Station." What she wanted was the Supernova Battle Rover - something that Santa not only delivered, but a playset still enjoyed two years later. For Holiday 2017, Fisher-Price has some new Imaginext collections, and two of the best are their DC Super Friends and Treasure Hunters series'. Not only are they fun for kids, but they're also fun for grownups as they tap into interests like Justice League and Indiana Jones. Here's a look at some of this season's must-haves, sent to us for review as part of THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine's 2017 Holiday Wish Guide™!
Wonder Crew dolls are something I've been writing about for ages. In fact, I first shared news of these toys nearly three years ago - back in March of 2015. Fast-forward a bit, and what we have is a repeat entry into my annual Holiday Wish Guide™ - a 2016 selection that's back for 2017. Launched independently via a successful Kickstarter campaign, Wonder Crew was eventually acquired by PlayMonster, and they've slowly begun popping up on shelves at more and more retailers as the movement has grown. They're dolls that were designed with boys in mind, but intended for all children... girls and boys alike.
My wife and I have been intrigued by the idea of a neighborhood library for awhile - an interest piqued by the growing Little Free Library movement. Perhaps you've seen them around - little boxes or buildings placed in a yard, each encouraging neighbors to take a book or leave a book for their neighbors to enjoy. Until now, those libraries were either built buy their caretakers or ordered from craftsman - but for inexperienced builders such as myself, none were really simple or affordable enough to make me pull the trigger. Then came some news out of Ohio that the team at The Simplay3 Company were working on a solution - a simpler option "for folks wanting to make a positive impact in their community." Their new Simplay3 Sharing Library is the end result of designers who found themselves inspired by the Little Free Library movement and wanted to get them into as many neighborhoods as possible.
