Having caught their recent video for 'Soldiers,' Las Vegas band OTHERWISE wasn't exactly at the top of my 'must-listen' list. But, after a special request came in for me to give their new album TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES a spin, I figured it couldn't hurt. The problem is, that uncanny feeling of 'Haven't I heard this before?'
Well, that certainly didn't take long. Rising artist GOTYE is one of the latest artists to get the Lullaby Treatment, but not from one of the bigger lullaby companies. A label called 'Big Eye Music' has just released LULLABY RENDITIONS OF GOTYE, which hit iTunes and other digitial retailers today. The tracklisting for this mellow collection of songs (mostly reworked from GOTYE's 2011 MAKING MIRRORS album) can be viewed below. Will your little one be rocking some Gotye in the Nursery?
With Mother's Day fast-approaching (it's this Sunday, May 13 - so go get those cards!), THE HARMONICA POCKET is serving up a FREE DOWNLOAD of their new song, ''Happy Mother's Day (Reggae Version).'' The song will be one of many included on their August release, APPLE APPLE, and was recorded at their ''solar-powered studio on a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest.'' It's time for another installment of The Random Rock N' More - the column where the ''...For Grown-ups'' section of The Rock Father get's homepage placement. Below the break you'll find rapid-fire updates on over 25 bands and artists - that aren't neccessarily 'family friendly.' Check out these bite-sized nuggets of knowledge and hit the enclosed links for more. This marks a trial of a more colorful version of The Random Rock, adding some visual enhancements (one album cover) instead of a plain list. BTW - When I say 'Random Rock' - that means you're getting metal, radio rock, thrash, punk, mainstream, black metal, indie, all corners of rock. Let's do this!
My daughter is a tad young for AMERICAN GIRL, but my wife is really looking forward to the time when she'll be able to attend some of their famed 'mother-daughter' events with the munchkin. While we're not there just yet, those of you with girls ages 8 to 12 should take a look at READ-A-PALOOZA, a new program launched on May 1 and running through September 3, 2012. It's a full program ''packed with fun activities and incentives that encourage literacy.'' Check out the details below.
I'm a sucker for a good cover song, and that's something that I've noted often over the years. In a way, I guess you could say that I'm a 'collector' of covers, with countless compilations devoted to artists putting their personal stamp on another artist's work residing on the shelves and in the files of my personal archives. This week there's a new piece available in the form of A LITTLE LOVE, a 10-song collection of acoustic re-imaginings from RENEE & JEREMY. While the duo is known for their kid-friendly works, A LITTLE LOVE is really an album for both kids and grownups alike.
