I've often said that "we're living in a Golden Age of television for kids and family" audiences, and that sentiment is one that bears repeating. Changes in culture and viewing habits have forced change among content creators, and competition has been a great thing for audiences as the quality and diversity of programming has really seen a huge uptick over the past few years. For Netflix in particular, the focus on kids and family has been a big one, and their partnerships have spawned some incredible things - from educational and entertaining, to adventurous and action-packed... and sometimes, all of the above, there's something for every taste. Here's some Rock Father Picks for the Spring of 2017!
The Rock Father™ has collaborated with Lucasfilm for the #RogueOneDigital launch.
With the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it was confirmed that cinematic audiences were more than ready to embrace Star Wars stories beyond the "Saga" lineage and ties to the Skywalker clan. Director Gareth Edwards brought to life a compelling film spawned from the opening crawl of 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, presenting on the big screen for the first time a type of adventure that was previously only explored in ancillary storytelling like books and games. After revisiting Rogue One now that it's come home on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere, I realized just how much the film has both captured and reignited my interest in the characters that live slightly to the side of our main heroes - an interest that directly relates to what I loved about the original trilogy growing up.
Does the suit make the man? That's the question pondered in the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming - the first feature-length collaboration between Sony and Disney that finds Spidey making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after making his debut in Captain America: Civil War last year. Here we find Peter Parker (Tom Holland) having some issues with authority, particularly that of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and The Avengers. Take a look...
My girls keep telling me that I "have a big belly like Daddy Pig," so I'm very aware of the world of Peppa Pig. I can dig it, and I'm a big fan of some of the supporting characters like Mr. Potato. Indeed, Peppa is among the icons here at Rock Father HQ, and our family has enjoyed the show, the toys, the clothing, and even a visit to Peppa Pig Live! With that in mind, I think I can claim to be well-versed in all-things-Peppa, and that's why I'm inviting you to join eOne and The Toy Insider this Friday, March 31 at 11am ET for the #AroundtheWorldPeppa Twitter Party. You have to RSVP to be eligible for prizes, and we've got some fun ones in the mix!
It's been one year since PRODUCT OF HATE (co-managed by The Rock Father™) released their Napalm Records debut album, Buried in Violence (iTunes | Amazon). In the time since, the band has seen their audience grow, and their extended family on Facebook is a big part of that. When they signed their deal, the band had just 2,000 likes on the service, a number that was at 5,000 the week of the album release. In the year since, PRODUCT OF HATE has seen that number swell, hitting 50,000 fans this week - a number that continues to grow. As a band in 2017, the best thing that can happen is that listeners tell their friends. It's old-school word-of-mouth in the digital age, and as a "thank you," PRODUCT OF HATE and The Rock Father™ are giving you a shot at winning a signed, "Tour Edition" White Vinyl LP copy of Buried in Violence.
Over thirty years before DreamWorks' Voltron: Legendary Defender became a breakout hit as a Netflix Original Series (read my feature on it here), there was Voltron: Defender of the Universe... or what kids like myself knew it as back in 1984, simply, Voltron. Now, with the new series already in its second season, a whole new generation has discovered an exciting world, but one worthy of a history lesson. Voltron '84 is a hand-picked collection of twelve episodes from the original series, enhanced by introductions by the creative team behind the current series. To celebrate the arrival of Voltron '84 on Netflix, the Voltron crew has teamed-up with The Rock Father™ to give you a chance to win a couple of new action figures from the folks at Playmates Toys!
After a San Diego Comic-Con sneak-preview last summer, the first official trailer for Warner Bros' JUSTICE LEAGUE is finally here. This long-awaited installment of the DC Extended Universe will arrive in theaters this November, uniting Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller), and while he's absent from this trailer and the marketing, you can bet we see a rebirth of Superman (Henry Cavill) at some point. After all, while he was sacrificed at the end of last year's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the familiar "S" is present on the film's official website, and it's long-been known that Kal-El never stays down for long. Check out the trailer below...

Danny Wimmer Presents (DWP) is the outfit behind the biggest rock festivals in America. This spring and summer, you can see Korn performing at three of them -- May 6 at Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, May 20 at Rock On The Range, and then on July 15 they'll play the summer's biggest rock festival, Chicago Open Air. As the band gears-up for the coming festival season, DWP asked the band "what drives them?" Here's what Korn frontman Jonathan Davis and guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer had to say. Check out Driven: Korn below
It's National Puppy Day, so what better day than today to debut the first trailer for a show called Puppy Dog Pals? Coming to Disney Junior on April 14 (10:30 a.m. EDT), Puppy Dog Pals was created by comedian Harland Williams, and will debut with two back-to-back episodes on Disney Channel and will also become available that day on the Disney Junior app and YouTube page. The show follows two fun-loving pug brothers, Bingo and Rolly, whose thrill-seeking appetites take them on exhilarating adventures throughout their neighborhood and around the globe. Williams also serves as consulting producer and writer and voices the role of Bob, the pups' devoted owner. Sean Coyle ("The Awesomes," "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse") serves as executive producer. Stay tuned, as I'll be checking out more from Puppy Dog Pals at the #Cars3Event next week (details here), but in the meantime, check out the trailer below!
They say that "love is a new puppy," and that's something that I've experienced twice in my life - both within the last 15 years. No, I didn't have a pet until my teens, and even then, it was hamsters. I would've enjoyed having a dog running around, but sometimes having a real-life canine companion just doesn't work - for a lot of reasons. That's where Peppy Pets can come in with their Peppy Pups - adorable puppies that are packed with personality! To celebrate the joy of puppy companionship on National Puppy Day and beyond, TPF Toys and The Rock Father™ have teamed-up to get one family hooked-up with a Peppy Pup of their own!
The Rock Father™ is collaborating with Disney Pixar for the #Cars3Event
Over the course of four decades, I've had some adventures. In fact, some have been so unique, that I fully expect to one day become that white-haired old grandpa, who sits and spins tales so elaborate that younger generations don't know whether to believe them or not. As a grown-up, I've explored many career paths, my interests casting a wide net, quite possibly inspired by my own lineage. Even as a child, there were some uncommon experiences, and those adventures helped shape who I am today, though certain interests have gone dormant at times, only to be reignited somewhere later down the road. A love of cars and racing is a prime example, something once fueled by my dad's 70's/80's gig as a track announcer for UARA and World of Outlaw Midgets, and later doing NASCAR at the legendary (and sadly, closed) Santa Fe Speedway. As my adult life veered me toward exploits in music, television, film and writing, it was the birth of our daughters that brought all-things automotive back to the forefront. What we think really did it was Disney•Pixar's Cars... specifically, 2011's Cars 2. Addie was absolutely enamored by Lightning McQueen and Holley Shiftwell, and that ignited an octane-obsession that led to an impressive collection of Hot Wheels. I thought she loved cars... but her little sister has a passion that's even bigger. Those girls are responsible for "Rock Father Rides" even existing, and it's completely exciting how everything has all come together. Next week, I'll be at Pixar Animation Studios, stepping into the world of Cars 3! Indeed, The Rock Daughters™ are bummed that they can't come with for this one.
Collectors of Funko Pop! Vinyl got a surprise this week with the reveal of two new Entertainment Earth Exclusives - and they're from very different corners of the pop culture landscape. From Warner Bros.' upcoming Wonder Woman, there's a Diana Prince vinyl figure that features the character in her "civilian disguise" for the first-time ever. And for those into some serious horror action, there's a "Bloody" Ash from Starz' Ash vs Evil Dead. Check them out below, courtesy of my affiliate, Entertainment Earth.
As some of you might know, I co-manage PRODUCT OF HATE (disclosure and all), and these past few months have been busy - but it's about to get busier. This week, we're finally able to drop the curtain on the details for the next big round of touring, and it happens in two legs this May-July. PRODUCT OF HATE will be out supporting their Napalm Records debut album, BURIED IN VIOLENCE, first on an East Coast run with SKINLAB (first tour in seven years!) and IKILLYA (new album, WAR FOR AN IDEA, out 6/2 on Urban Yeti Records). Then, the 2017 Summer Annihilation Tour finds PRODUCT OF HATE and IKILLYA making a trek across the U.S., with local support and special guests in each city. Confirmed dates below, with more to be added shortly...
