Jem and the Holograms is a legendary property that still has yet to see a truly proper relaunch. The live-action film wasn't right, and while Hasbro has licensed it out for high-end dolls and a pretty cool comic from IDW Publishing, it still feels like there's a lot of untapped potential to be had. Now Funko is testing the waters with a pair of Pop! Vinyl figures that represent one of the greatest rivalries in the history of animated bands. Jem will be available soon along with Pizzazz Gabor of The Misfits, and both of these figures are available for pre-order now via my affiliates at Entertainment Earth!

I don't think that any child of the 1980s could avoid the power of JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS. Hasbro's line of pop star fashion dolls was perfectly pushed by a daily cartoon series, and I often found myself playing JEM with my sister - rockin' out and battling THE MISFITS. Little did I know that three decades later, I'd be sharing the original cartoons with The Rock Daughters™ (The Complete Series DVD Set is available through Shout! Factory) and that an IDW Comic Book series (which is really cool) and a live-action movie from Universal Pictures would be putting Jericca Benton and Synergy front-and-center for a whole new generation. To celebrate the release of the live-action JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, Fandango Family and THE ROCK FATHER Magazine are giving readers a chance to win a $100 Fandango Gift Card!

This certainly came out of nowhere - an unexpected press release from Hasbro Studios and Sony Music/Legacy Recordings announcing this Friday's release of TRULY OUTRAGEOUS: A JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS TRIBUTE. It's no secret that my wife and I are JEM fans and have been introducing the girls to that world, and with a live-action movie arriving on October 23, the buzz is building. Labeled as "A TRIBUTE TO STARLIGHT RECORDS" on its cover, this 12-song album reimagines music from the classic animated series, and is up for pre-order now on Amazon and iTunes as a digital-only release. Songs come from the 65-episode run on Hasbro's JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, featuring songs from that band, as well as THE MISFITS and THE STINGERS.

It's no secret that I have fond memories of JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS from the original cartoon series and its accompanying toy line from Hasbro back in the 1980s. My wife and I have both enjoyed sharing some of those old episodes with our daughters, and just recently we picked up the first issue of the new JEM comic book from IDW Publishing. I've been writing about the forthcoming live-action JEM movie for what seems like a really long time, and today the first real look at it has arrived in the form of the first trailer and theatrical poster.  Check them out below, and then I'll share some of my own thoughts on it...

Today is the first Saturday in May, and if you're into the "heroic" side of life, then you probably already know what that means: FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. The annual FCBD is a celebration of the world of comic books - a way of uniting all generations of readers and supporting local small businesses all in one colorful swoop. We missed last year's FCBD due to a scheduling conflict, but after writing about our experiences in 2013 and 2012, we're back in the swing of things for 2015. While I'd intended this to be my first year taking both girls, that plan changed due to "parenting" having to step-in. 5½-year-old Addie, who was planning to be Wonder Woman today, decided to make an angry and powerful kick that landed intentionally on Batgirl (2½-year-old Finley) this morning, thus revoking her privilege to accompany us to FCBD. I think I might've been more disappointed than she was, but we don't reward a villainous turn, so Finn and I were on our way to Jay's Comics in Third Lake, Illinois...

NETFLIX Stream TeamI posted a picture on Instagram the other day that my wife and I had been joking about. As the girls had just been tucked-in the night before, Jen and I sat down to watch another episode of the breakthrough MARVEL smash DAREDEVIL on Netflix. We don't have a lot of time for "binge watching" (though it's been very tempting), so we're on about episode 10 right now. The funny thing was how the "Recently Watched" and "Top Picks for James" reflected how much of our viewing is dictated by our girls. Yes, you can set-up individual profiles for the family (there's even a "KIDS" one), but I tend to use my own on our Vizio Smart TV just for the sake of convenience. What my wife said is that "people who would see these would either figure you have daughters, or are a total creep." Take a look...
