Super Bowl Commercials: What if the M&M's Spokescandy Became Danny DeVito?

Written by

The Super Bowl or "Big Game" (for companies not paying the license fee) is happening this Sunday, and while I won't be watching the game (being "anti-football"), I do love the commercials. As it's been for the past several years, many companies are getting out in front of the Sunday push, releasing their spots early for the YouTube crowd, and today comes an early entry from M&M's candy. The question: What if one of their spokescandies came to life in human form? Well, we have the answer, and that answer is Batman Returns' Danny DeVito. Take a look...

"When casting for a human that embodies the personality of our Red M&M'S spokescandy, we were looking for someone who is known for having a sarcastic sense of humor and know-it-all wit – Danny DeVito was the perfect human match," says Allison Miazga-Bedrick, Brand Director, M&M'S. "We hope our fans will be entertained by how we bring Red together with an iconic celebrity in a way that's never been done before."

In an appropriate digital connection, M&M's also cast YouTube star, actor and singer Todrick Hall in this year's commercial. During the spot, DeVito asks Hall, "Do you want to eat me?" – and Hall responds by shaking his head in disgust.
