Cheers: Try These 3 Delicious Shots At Your Next Holiday Party

Written by

No party is complete without festive food for the occasion, even if your guests dressed in their best ugly sweaters for the event. If you want to serve up the best samples of the season, try these festive shots and drinks that put the "spirit" in Christmas spirit.

An old fashioned with a twist

Nothing beats the warm feeling of cozying up next to the fire. At least, that's what we thought before we warmed our insides too. Get in the festive spirit by mixing your favorite whiskey and bitters with a dash of ice cold apple cider. Or, you can make a larger batch complete with apple slices and cinnamon sticks for a truly festive event.

Here's what you need:

  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 2/3 cup apple cider
  • 2 ounces whiskey
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Apple slices and cinnamon sticks to garnish

Candy cane is king

Peppermint is a holiday staple. As such, no holiday party will survive without a delectable drink to do it justice.

A candy cane shot only has two simple ingredients: white chocolate liqueur and peppermint schnapps. For an added bonus, you can line your shot glasses or mini margarita glasses with a crushed peppermint rim for an extra-adorable display. Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the cool breeze of peppermint. If it gets too chilly, keep in mind draperies can stop heat loss by up to 10% to keep your guests comfy.

If you're not a fan of white chocolate, you can always pair the mixture with a classic chocolate liqueur. Did someone say mint chocolate chip?

Eggnog everything

Rum with eggnog is a holiday classic but a rumchata eggnog mix will satisfy even the sourest of grinches.

If you want to make your eggnog from scratch, you'll need to temper the eggs. This means slowly adding hot water to mixed egg yolks. Then you simply add cream or milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract before simmering it in the saucepan. Once it's done, add some rum or rumchata and presto! Serve them in mini glasses to make the perfect shot.

Keep in mind that not every guest will want to drink at your holiday party. Luckily, it's estimated that nearly 80% of your guests will happily accept coffee or tea if it's offered. Try to offer a few festive options like peppermint and offer a variety of creamers so guests can pick and choose their favorite options.

Additionally, you should encourage to eat some of your delectable holiday hors-d'oeuvres. Even six ounces of Greek yogurt can help placate a guest's appetite and quell any upset tummies as a result of drinking. Set out some scrumptious snacks and your guests will naturally gravitate toward the food.

When you want to plan a perfect holiday party, try these unique flavors to celebrate in style.
