If you're heading out to Lollapalooza this weekend in Chicago and you have little ones along for the ride, the Kidzapalooza stage has some fine, family-friendly music from the likes of BRADY RYMER AND THE LITTLE BAND THAT COULD, PLAY DATE, SCHOOL OF ROCK and more. But this year, something special is happening - performances by the Chicago Kindie All-Stars on Friday (1:30pm) and Saturday (12:30pm) featuring some of the Windy City's best family music stars performing alongside THE HEARTBEATS, best-known as LAURA DOHERTY's backing band. How many All-Stars you ask? Six.
Some News into Rock Father HQ via Press Release:
Silver Wrapper & Star Events have announced the 16th Annual Taste of Randolph Street, taking place June 13-15, 2014 in Chicago, IL and featuring some of the top bands in indie rock today spanning three stages, all benefiting the West Loop Community Organization! This year’s artists include British indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs, who are set to release their latest album Education, Education, Education & War on March 31, 2014; Seattle based pop indie rock band Minus the Bear; California born rockers Delta Spirit, Philadelphia based indie rock band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and many more, plus a DJ Dance Stage hosted by The Mid!
Earlier today, Chicago Firefighter John Joyce (a friend of mine, and this site) made an appearance on Chicago's Very Own WGN TV as their "Firehouse Chef of the Week." John isn't just a Firefighter and fine cook - he's also the frontman of POOCHAMUNGAS, a kindie rock band that hopefully you've heard me talk about... and if not, go grab their new album, BLOCK PARTY, right now! Check out John's appearance below, along with his recipe for some tasty turkey chili... which oddly enough, isn't far off from what we make here at Rock Father HQ. Chicago style!
On March 4, BAND TOGETHER: A CHICAGO KINDIE MUSIC SAMPLER will be released, bringing together for the very first time, eight Windy City Kindie artists to benefit INTONATION MUSIC WORKSHOP - an organization that "empowers children to become rock stars on every stage of life through innovative music education." Following it's release via CD Baby and Bandcamp, a BAND TOGETHER Live Concert event will take place on Saturday, March 8 at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. Tickets for the 3pm show can be purchased via this link.
It's incredible to think of any musical artist being able to release a staggering 34 full-length albums over the course of their career, but in an incredible 56 years of recording for Smithsonian Folkways, that's exactly the number that ELLA JENKINS recently reached, with the release of "123s & ABCs."
