Over the past few years, we've developed quite a few Holiday traditions that happen to involve Mattel's HOT WHEELS. You might not automatically make the Holiday connection with Hot Wheels outside of being a coveted gift each December since 1968, but for many years the Hot Wheels team has been developing and producing seasonally-themed vehicles that often show up as retailer exclusives a few times each year. When Spring rolls around, the Easter Bunny has a habit of dropping a few "Happy Easter" Hot Wheels into The Rock Daughters' baskets, and this year is no exception, with the release of the 2016 Happy Easter Hot Wheels collection, available egg-sclusively at Walmart. There's six cars in all, with spring-themed, pastel versions of 16 Angels, Blvd. Bruiser, Circle Trucker, Furiosity, Monster Dairy Delivery and the Torque Twister all included. I've got a set right here, and one (1) lucky reader of THE ROCK FATHER Magazine will be able to put it in their own Easter Basket!
"Spring is here again..." Those words, from NIRVANA's "In Bloom" are the perfect stage-setters for this week, as we close the books on Easter and welcome to start of Major League Baseball season here in the U.S. The tulips are finally starting to emerge... the kids are playing outside... it's a great time all around. To celebrate the season, I've teamed with my friends at PEANUTS Worldwide as part of my gig as a PEANUTS Brand Ambassador, to bring all of you a chance to score a fantastic Spring Prize Pack from Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang!
If there's a 6' anthropomorphic bunny headed down your street next month, I'd imagine that said hare might be looking for some ideas as to what goodies to leave in your little ones' baskets. Yes, Easter is on its way - and with the annual celebration of Spring comes plenty of potential treats, and today I'm highlighting three of them here on THE ROCK FATHER - two of which you'll have a chance to win from my friends at Kaboom! Entertainment! Ready to HOP, JUMP and POP into Easter?
Each year, Mattel produces a limited-edition set of Hot Wheels vehicles that are sold exclusively through Walmart for Easter. Much like the Holiday Hot Rods series that they do, these bargain-priced diecast rides are generally a one-and-done type of deal. Each store gets a sidekick display or two, and once they're gone, they're gone... and a ton of them end up on third-party resale sites like eBay for significantly higher prices. For 2015, the "Happy Easter" Series contains six cars, each priced at just $0.84 cents each in-store... but the trick is to actually find a whole set... which is where I come in. For the past two years, my girls have received a set, and I already have confirmation that the Easter Bunny will be delivering a set for my little ones this year as well. But there is another full set of six - one that I have here in my possession at Rock Father HQ, and I'm going to give it to one of you. These would make some really cool basket stuffers! Ready for a chance to win?
It's been a decade since WINNIE THE POOH: SPRINGTIME WITH ROO was first released, and having missed it the first time around (five years Pre-Rock Father), I was anxious to check it out on "Hippity Hoppity Roo Edition" Blu-ray with my girls, both of whom have developed an affection for the characters of the Hundred Acre Wood. Just-released from the infamous Disney Vault (and for the first time in HD), SPRINGTIME WITH ROO is a surprising tale - but one that was unexpectedly... familiar.
Last week, I reviewed "Gaia She Knows," the new single from THE HIPWADERS, right here on The Rock Father. While the focus of that release (available digitally, and in the archaic "compact disc" format) is the title track in two versions, the inclusion of a fresh version of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" as the B-side makes it an Easter 2013 must-have. In just seven days, a six-foot anthropomorphic rabbit will be making his way across the land, dropping off baskets full of Easter joy - but you don't have to wait until then for some Easter rock... THE HIPWADERS are making "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" available as a FREE DOWNLOAD for the next week! Stream it below, then grab it from their Soundcloud page...
