#MovemberUPDATE: This promotion continues here!

For the second year in a row, I've committed myself to growing a mustache... or moustache, in support of Movember and their mission to raise funds and awareness to combat men's health issues including cancers and mental health (the cause I've chosen to support). My wife says that I "grow amusing facial hair," so that adds to the fun as I do my best to cultivate a fantastic 'stache by month's end, using the immortal Burt Reynolds (SMOKEY & THE BANDIT), Tom Selleck (MAGNUM P.I.) and David Hasselhoff (as the evil Garthe Knight from KNIGHT RIDER) as my inspiration - my "poster boys," if you will, in my journey. I break the rules a little bit right off the top, not starting "clean shaven," but working around my goatee to add a complimentary 'stache into the mix, and this year my Movember journey is powered by Panasonic & Neutrogena as they work to keep me looking good, while serving up a rockin' giveaway to help draw attention to and raise awareness for my personal Movember campaign. What could you win? Check this out...

I've covered a lot of ground here on THE ROCK FATHER over the years, but I don't think I've ever brought you a review of bread before. It takes something a little bit different to hook me, and DAVE'S KILLER BREAD had the story to pique my interest even before the girls and I tried the product, which is not just very, very good, but excellent. In fact, Dave's Killer Bread (Non-GMO, Organic, Project-Verified Whole Grain) actually accomplished an incredible feat - it's the only "grainy" bread that my girls have ever eaten, and thus far the only one they will eat. But there's a story to go along with this bread - one that will no doubt have a movie hidden within one day...

PBSTonight (Sept 10) at 9pm/8c on PBS, NOVA: VACCINES—CALLING THE SHOTS will air, an important documentary that focuses on one of the hot topics facing parents today: to vaccinate or not? My wife and I are 100% in favor of keeping our girls up-to-date on their vaccinations, though we have spread out some of them over a few visits due to the sheer amount needed. As a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent), I was given an advance look at the new NOVA documentary, and my stance is unchanged, but perhaps even more solidified. Parents - especially new parents - need to be informed, and in the modern era - years after mumps, whooping cough, measles and other infectious diseases have been eradicated, it's alarming to see them starting to make a return. Check out a preview of this new film below...

Support Alex's Lemonade StandOn Wednesday, August 20, RED ROBIN will celebrate National Lemonade Day by helping to give back in support of ALEX'S LEMONADE STAND (ALSF) in their efforts to raise awareness to finding cures for all childhood cancers. Friends of THE ROCK FATHER are encouraged to stop by their local participating Red Robin restaurant on the 20th, where the Red Robin crew will host lemonade stands to serve Freckled Lemonade samples to guests and collect donations to support ALSF. Those who donate $5 or more will be given a yellow bracelet as a token of appreciation. Now, to help get the word out, Red Robin has team-up with THE ROCK FATHER for a giveaway, where you'll get a chance to score a $25 Red Robin Gift Card for helping us spread the word about Alex's Lemonade Stand!

THE ROCK FATHERRock Father vs. Rock Father - It's been 30 weeks since James Zahn and Tom George (read the kick-off story here) began a year-long journey to not only lose weight, but get fit. These two Work-at-Home Dads had let time and their jobs take their toll on their personal well-being. For each week of the journey, we've been checking-in to find out how their efforts are paying off. This past Sunday, July 27, 2014, both men did their weigh-in, and these are the results...

On January 1 of this year, I launched the 2014 Fitness Challenge here on THE ROCK FATHER. After years of leading a lifestyle that wasn't exactly great for my body, I started a gradual change three years ago when I quit smoking, and this year the time finally came to really start leading a healthy lifestyle. I've changed my diet, count calories, and now hit the gym 4-5 nights per week. One important change has been making sure not to skip breakfast (which I have a habit of forgetting to eat), and in doing so, I've rekindled my love of cereal - something that started last Fall when I first mentioned trying Silk Almondmilk after not drinking any kind of milk since 1989. Recently, the folks at Silk got in touch about their new Silk Almondmilk Blends - and one of them fit right into my routine: Protein + Fiber. Can Almondmilk rock? I say "YES!"
