Living in the suburbs of Chicago for most of my life (and making a slingshot from far south to far north), I'm still occasionally pleasantly surprised by finding great new areas to explore. Until this month, I had no idea what a vibrant scene could be found in Downtown Naperville, a city located about 30 miles west of Chicago, and about an hour south of Rock Father HQ. After dropping the girls off at Grandma's for the evening, my wife and I set out for an adventure - one anchored by dinner at The Craftsman by Two Brothers. I'd had a long-standing invitation* to check out what Two Brothers has been doing, not only at The Craftsman, but also at their Brewery and Tap House in Warrenville, but simply hadn't had a chance until now. From what we saw in Naperville, I can tell you that there's some impressive things afoot for foodies and beer lovers alike.
Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month? It sure is, and to celebrate, the National Restaurant Association hit THE ROCK FATHER with news that its first-of-its-kind Kids LiveWell initiative has grown to 42,000 restaurant locations nationwide. The voluntary program, which provides a growing selection of healthful children’s menu choices in every state, now counts more than 145 restaurant brands as participants, including new national companies Cosi, Jamba Juice and Rainforest Café, as well as Ovation Brands’ Country Buffet, HomeTown Buffet and Old Country Buffet, among other regional chains and independent restaurants.
Earlier this month, you might recall that I featured some of my favorite local eateries right here on The Rock Father. That post was a small part of a larger initiative - a "Blog Hop" involving a group of bloggers that are part of the Collective Bias Social Fabric Community. These writers set out to feature local restaurants in the United States and Canada, as well as some selections from our friends in the United Kingdom as well. If you're up for some reading that will get your mouth watering, check out the roundup of posts below. You might find some new favorite bloggers to add to your daily reading!
A group of bloggers from across the U.S. and Canada have teamed up to profile some favorite local eateries as part of a "Blog Hop" presented by the Collective Bias Social Fabric Community. I threw my hat into the ring to represent Lake County, Illinois - a vast area in the far Northern Suburbs of Chicago, and the semi-hidden home of Rock Father HQ. In fairness, there's no way I could pull off an assortment for the whole county (too many towns, too many great places), so I zeroed-in on 10 Favorites - each holding a special place in my heart for an assortment of reasons. Are they "the best?" That's subjective, but these are some personal favorites... and you'll find that I lean toward a specific type of Chicago-style fare...
