It's been a little while since I've done a Random Rock column, so we're more than overdue. The drill is simple - I offer random-fire updates on a few dozen artists along with links to dig deeper, should you choose. From here on out, I'm adding 'N' MORE' to the title so that I can include some non-rock stuff on occasion. With a current total of 7,943 unread emails sitting in my inbox (no joke!) I sometimes wonder if the bands, artists, labels, managers, and publicists appreciate my taking the time to do this... but I do love spreading the rock. Here's updates on 31 Artists for Thursday, March 15, 2012!
I'm curious what Morrissey thinks of this, if only because Morrissey is an interesting and often-polarizing guy: THE SMITHS are the latest band to get the lullaby treatment courtesy of Rockabye Baby! The twelve-track set was announced today via Facebook, and will be issued on April 24th, 2012. The Rock Father™ has the full tracklisting below - and just in case you're wondering, news of THE SMITHS' lullaby set inspired me to pull up How Soon is Now? on my iTunes playlist, which led to my listening to THE BRIT BOX tonight. Funny how that all works.
As we're experiencing record-highs here in Northern Illinois this week, my daughter and I have been seizing the opportunity to get outside and start working on our garden clean-up. March 14, 2011 is the day that I officially quit smoking. At some point on the night of March 13, I quietly took the last puff of the last cigarette in the last pack that I owned. Upon telling my wife that I was officially ''done,'' she took it upon herself to clean-up some of the ''smoker's mess'' that I'd created. The ashtrays of both cars were scoured. The sand-filled flowerpots that I'd strategically placed on my front porch and near my gardening shed were disposed of, along with a ton of stray butts that had made their way into the surrounding landscape over the winter months. The cleansing had begun.
As the retail landscape continues to evolve, Barnes & Noble has been expanding their online product assortment and offering some very competitive pricing (even rivaling Amazon at times) in order to avoid a fate like that of the recently-departed Borders. That said, it's a good time for consumers, and I was surprised to learn that it's BABY WEEK at Barnes & Noble, and that they're offering 25% Off Hundreds of Baby Gifts and Essentials at BN.com. But that's not all. They have other great deals for parents on items for kids, and The Rock Father™ is sharing the info below...
It's hard for me not to be just a little bit silly when reviewing Lullaby Renditions of DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, the latest offering from the Rockabye Baby! collection of nursery-ready pop and rock tunes. I actually find Dave and his band of musical merry-men to be tolerable and quite good musically, yet I've never been a fan. Not once have I ever thought to myself, ''Yep, I need to go put on some Dave Matthews Band right now!'' Never happened. Never will. My wife, on the other hand - big, big fan. That means I get to take shots at the DMB for my own amusement from time to time.
