I never really thought about it until this morning, but if I were living in a neighborhood that was constantly being destroyed due to superhero battles involving The Avengers and the assorted villains that they often face, I'd probably want to move. With that in mind, the folks at Quicken Loans just hit The Rock Father™ with news that they've teamed-up with Marvel for a co-branded Rocket Mortgage promotional spot to show that "the mortgage process doesn't have to be a battle." Additionally, they've revealed that there's Rocket Mortgage product placement in the opening scenes of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War (which I will see at the World Premiere in Hollywood later this month - more on that soon). As I am writing this, my wife and I have now owned our house for seven years. In fact, after twelve moves in my life, the home that has become known as “Rock Father HQ” will soon become the one that I’ve lived in the longest. With homeownership comes some challenges, and while we’ve tackled many with the #RockFatherRemodel project (the goal is that the house will get nicer as it gets older), others have been more daunting. Often they’re projects that don’t need to be.
They say that one thing leads to another... and in the case of our home, that's absolutely correct. The entire #RockFatherRemodel Project was spawned by one major problem - a leaking bathroom that came through the ceiling of our family room/play room. That was just the beginning, as various components of that overhaul led to further projects, and as we sit right now, the process is ongoing. The full remodel of the Master Bathroom was a must-do, and a daunting task despite bringing in professional help for the bulk of the work. If you're like us and live in a modest, suburban home, our projects will hopefully serve as inspiration that a home can improve with age.
It was nearly six years ago that we moved into the house that would become our home - the home that would become known as Rock Father HQ. Little Adalyn was less than a year old, and Finley was still about two years off. We weren't first-time buyers, but the decision to buy our first single-family home was one wrapped in many things - like affordability, area, the house itself, and most importantly for us, the school district. It was my wife who fell in love with the house - I was more excited for the yard. The house was nice, but would need some improvements, a quick $10K spent at The Home Depot up the road on some immediate things (lots and lots of paint), and we were in business. But, like any aging house that's changed hands a few times, there were things that would eventually need to be addressed... just as there were things that we'd eventually want to address. And sometimes those "wants" end up being prompted (or accelerated) by unexpected needs. That's exactly how The #RockFatherRemodel Project began. As things needed to be done, I realized it was time to start tracking the progress.

Back in March, I began a series (Part I: Beginning, Part II: In-Home Consultations) about our first truly major project since buying the home that's become known as "Rock Father HQ" back in 2010 - total home window replacement. Rather than wrap it up right away after the install, I wanted to make sure we'd lived with the windows for a bit prior to sharing some final thoughts on the whole thing so that others might have a little more ammo going into their own project. The odd thing is, buying windows is very much a mystery, and with so little information regarding pricing available online (old-school sales tactics that I don't appreciate), I'm letting everyone know how our job played out.
