Back Seats. My #1 pet peeve when it comes to cars. Let's face it, what most vehicles consider to be a legitimate "back seat" is barely suitable for any human being to fit in comfortably... but regardless of size, they can be a place of adventure for kids. They can also be a place for little ones to rock and roll. The folks at Subaru kept "Life in the Backseat" in mind when designing the all-new 2014 Subaru Forester®, and they even hit The Rock Father with a video to prove it...

Addie in her car seat...The little one in that video reminds me a lot of my two girls - especially Addie (pictured left), who many of you have seen rockin' out here on the site in the past. For my girls, the backseat is often a classroom... and the lesson is "Musical History." Popping on the SiriusXM Satellite Radio, we often do a little skimming around when we're not checking out Kids Place Live, and that gives me an opportunity to explain a bit about the artists and bands we're hearing. The first time that Addie said, "Daddy, I want to hear GUNS 'N ROSES," she was strapped into her car seat as we cruised the open road. It nearly brought a tear to my eye... but keep in mind that she's not even four yet, and this was just a few weeks ago.

Back when I was a kid... just about 30 years ago (I think it was 1984 - like the VAN HALEN record), we took a cross-country road trip to Washington D.C. from Chicago, making stops in some historical locations along the way. One stop was in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and my sister and I both got outfitted with "Civil War" hats and swords, and played "camping" in the backseat of our parents car... using blankets for "tents."

So what's your "Backseat Story?" The Rock Father and Subaru want to know... and you could win $1,000 for sharing.

To celebrate the release of the all-new 2014 Subaru Forester®Subaru has created a special hub where you can check out some "Backseat Stories" from readers like yourself, and take part in the conversation for a shot at the $1,000 prize. Click here to get started!

The 2014 Subaru Forester...Subaru Forester® has always embodied the right-sized power, control and versatility that owners love. Now, it also represents a green-minded, fuel-efficient small SUV, as every 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i model is a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle* and built in a zero-landfill plant. Combine that with more cargo room, available power rear gate and 32 MPG highway,** and you've got a vehicle that can take every day to task. Of course, the redesigned Forester comes with road-gripping Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the balance and power of the legendary SUBARU BOXER® engine.

* PZEV emissions warranty applies only in certain states. See your dealer for complete information on emission and New Car Limited Warranties.
** EPA-estimated fuel economy. Actual mileage may vary.
