They say that history repeats itself, and likewise so do trends. One trend in play that's back with some serious bite this year is everything jurassic.  Yes, the dinosaurs are back, and at the forefront of popular culture that's being driven by the release of Universal Pictures' Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.  While they might own the rights to certain stories, names and places, Universal can't lay claim to dinosaurs, and that keeps the gates wide-open for other toymakers to ride the wave of renewed excitement for the long-extinct (or are they?) giants that have been captivating imaginations for millions of years. For Playmobil, The Explorers are their new line of archaeological adventurers who are making their way into stores and playrooms with tales of a mysterious island called Roca, where dinosaurs continue to live peacefully thanks to a magical fruit. At the 115th North American International Toy Fair in New York, I had a chance to see the new collection first-hand, and the folks at Playmobil recently sent us the new Hidden Temple with T-Rex Playset for a hands-on review.

As Jurassic Park celebrates its 25th Anniversary ahead of the release of Universal Pictures' Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, a familiar predator is making an appearance at the "Raptor Encounter." Blue, one of the most popular dinosaurs from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s blockbuster Jurassic World franchise, is now part of Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort’s exciting “Raptor Encounter” experiences inviting guests to brave the dangerous predator in daring face-to-face standoffs.

It's been said that "life finds a way," and in 2019 it's going to be evolving... at least in terms of Universal Studios Hollywood and their famed Jurassic Park - The Ride. Announced today, the all-new Jurassic World Ride will be coming to the park next year, drawing from favorite elements of the original ride, but in a next-generation form - a thrill ride that will be "a fully reimagined iteration of the ground-breaking adventure, elevating every facet of the experience. With the introduction of never-before-seen dinosaurs, enhanced storytelling, lush scenic design, an entirely new color scheme and uncompromised state-of the art technology, the ride will capture elements never experienced within a theme park." Now, the "Countdown to Extinction" has begun as guests from around the world are invited to experience the ride before its transformation. Jurassic Park - The Ride will have its finale on September 3, 2018. Check out a teaser below!

We're gearing-up for another massive summer at the movies, and on June 22, 2018 the Jurassic Park franchise continues with the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Today the final trailer has arrived, and it's the first big look we've had at the true plot of the film - one involving use of the creatures for nefarious purposes. I call it two-and-a-half minutes of dino-fueled badassery. Check it out below!

As the first Jurassic Park celebrates its 25th Anniversary, Universal Brand Development and Film Concerts Live! have announced the world premiere of Jurassic World in Concert, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), led by guest conductor Emil de Cou. Ahead of this summer's release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the NSO will perform the complete Jurassic World score live, while Colin Trevorrow's hugely successful 2015 film is projected in HD onto a massive screen. The opening night of Jurassic World in Concert will take place on May 30 with a special concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

It's never fun to do a reveal that doesn't genuinely show the goods, but sometimes things just aren't quite ready yet. At Toy Fair there's always a lot of in-development product that's "pending licensor approval," and for some companies that means showing it privately, but not allowing pictures to get out there. The folks at Jada Toys have some fantastic offerings on the way, serving up new toys for kids and collectors alike, but unfortunately most of them are not ready to be seen. From new additions to their growing Nano Metalfigs line to all-new collections like a diecast line for girls (complete with licenses like Nickelodeon's Sunny Day) and expansion of their long-running Fast & Furious and supercar/tuners assortments, I'll be sharing much more very soon. For right now, though - there's one line in particular that really hit the sweet spot for me, and one property that really pushed it over the top. Hollywood Rides + KNIGHT RIDER? I'm in!
