By now it should be no secret that I do love the Lexus brand, most recently piloting the GX460 here at Rock Father HQ. The "F" performance brand has been a big part of that (I love the F Sport models), and since 2008, Lexus has made it a goal that "each vehicle with an "F" badge would set new standards for Lexus performance and help redefine the brand for a new generation of customers." Now comes word that the next chapter will begin in The Windy City, with the introduction of the 2018 Lexus GS F and 2018 RC F 10th anniversary special editions that will be displayed for the first time in the U.S. at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.
At the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Lexus just unveiled their latest concept - the Lexus LF-1 Limitless. Here's the official announcement that just came into Rock Father HQ this morning along with a just-released launch video...
"Like molten metal being forged into a fine Japanese sword, the lines of the Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept have the potential to shape the future of a flagship luxury crossover for Lexus."
I've always been fairly straightforward in admitting my love of the Lexus brand. When it comes to their vehicles, my affection tend to be toward their cars, so when the folks at DriveShop delivered one of their bigger rides to Rock Father HQ on-loan from Lexus USA, I was excited to see what an SUV under the Lexus nameplate had to offer. As the name implies, the 2017 Lexus GX460 Luxury is just that - a luxurious option for some big hauling and power.
It's no secret that I'm a fan of Lexus in general, so I was excited to drive the 2017 CT 200h F SPORT when it arrived here at Rock Father HQ some weeks back. Packing Lexus style and F SPORT performance into a small, hatchback package, the immediate draw of the CT 200h is that it's a hybrid - a fuel-efficient, gas-powered luxury vehicle that carries a combined fuel economy of 42mpg.
Out of all the vehicles that I've had a chance to pilot this year, the 2015 Lexus GS 350 F Sport stands above all as my favorite. The perfect mix of style and performance, the GS 350 F Sport is a comfortable family car that's loaded with enough luxury and sport features to scratch just about any itch that this driver happens to have. I managed to spend an extended amount of time in the GS 350 F Sport - one loaned to me for a trip from Northern Illinois to Michigan and back - and by the end of my run, I'd determined that this is a car that I would like to own... and the family agrees.
I spent the past week cruising around the Midwest in a Black 2015 Lexus GS350 F-Sport, falling in love with Lexus engineering and appropriately speeding along while thinking about the future. When it comes to the future, 1989's BACK TO THE FUTURE II sure planted some seeds of things to come, and this October, when the date arrives that the fictional Marty McFly would've traveled to, many will look back on the innovations that really did arrive as predicted by that film. Perhaps none have had as lasting an impact as the Mattel Hoverboard that was featured in the film - for years a punchline, and later made into a non-functioning "Prop Replica" sold through MattyCollector.com, last year the Hoverboard was the inspiration for an elaborate hoax carried out by Funny Or Die and featuring Tony Hawk. Who could've predicted that it would be Lexus who would create the first true, working Hoverboard - and that they'd been working on it while others were creating fakes. The Lexus Hoverboard is called SLIDE, and it's here...
