At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, The Honda Accord, Volvo XC60 and the Lincoln Navigator were crowned as the winners of the 2018 North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards. Chosen by a panel of more than 60 jurors from print, online and broadcast media across the United States and Canada, votes were tallied confidentially by Deloitte LLP and remained sealed until they were announced this week by NACTOY officers, President Mark Phelan, Vice President Matt DeLorenzo and Secretary-Treasurer Lauren Fix at Cobo Center in Detroit.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again - there's nothing like sitting back with a pumpkin beer in-hand, the smell of the cool autumn breeze coming through the windows, and the sweet sound of SLAYER blaring from the speakers of the hi-fi in October. I love SLAYER, so when two press releases relating to the metal titans landed here on the same day, I knew a post was in order. The 2014 Chicago Auto Show opened it's doors to the public this weekend (running through February 17th), but on Friday, The Rock Father participated in the media preview to get an early look at hundreds of new offerings and concept vehicles from the world's top automakers. Doing what I do, I'm always torn on how to cover such an event - I run a "family" site, but my personal interests skew toward the... more exciting at times. While my daily drivers here at Rock Father HQ bear the Chevrolet and Scion nameplates, performance, sport and luxury all strike my fancy. What I'm saying is that my inaugural coverage of the Chicago Auto Show is more of a highlight reel of what caught my eye... and that's as simple as it gets. Hopefully I'll get to go in-depth with some of these vehicles, as well as some more family-centric rides as the year rolls on.
