2017 CAS LogoFamilies planning to attend the 2017 Chicago Auto Show should prepare themselves for a journey to a galaxy far, far away. In partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd., Nissan is bringing an immersive Rogue One: A Star Wars Story-inspired experience to the Windy City, with the centerpiece being the first-ever full-size production vehicle to include Star Wars-branded elements, the Nissan Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition. But that's just the start...

I'm at home near Chicago right now, but if I was in Los Angeles (my most-visited city away from home), I'd want to be at the Los Angeles Auto Show (LA Auto Show®) - which kicks-off this weekend, running November 18-27. With the press preview having just-wrapped (showcasing debuts like Nissan's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story edition of their popular Rogue crossover, the Kia Soul Turbo, and Mazda's new RT-24P race car), the doors are about to open with family-friendly activities and all the best in vehicles and technology from all the top makers. Here's some highlights...

The 2016 Chicago Auto Show is underway at McCormick Place, and with a million square feet of automotive goodness, there's a lot for enthusiasts and families to enjoy. While I'll be rolling out #CAS16 features here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine throughout the week, today I'm highlighting seven things (with a few add-ons) to look for at the auto show - from debut vehicles, to concepts, music, tech and more.

"When your friends ask you how fast you went, tell them 'I went as fast as I could.'" That was the final bit of advice given by Xtreme Xperience Chief Instructor Brad Pines at the close of an instructional session held in a classroom overlooking the pit area of the North Course of the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois on Saturday. It was there that I, along with a handful of other early morning drivers received some brief, but important lessons prior to taking to the track in some of the World's finest vehicles - Supercars. For me, it would be the Ferrari F430 - a 483 horsepower hand-crafted vehicle with a top speed of 196 mph... but it wouldn't be the first time that I'd take to the track in Joliet. For that, we have to spin things back to 1978...

Real Supercars. Real Racetracks. Real Instruction. That's the mantra for the Xtreme Xperience, the premier touring supercar driving experience, which returns to the Chicago area this weekend for two days at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet. There, car enthusiasts or budding racers can get behind the wheel of some of the world's finest vehicles, from a fleet that includes the Lamborghini LP560-4, Ferrari F430, Ferrari 458 Italia, Audi R8, Mercedes SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R, and McLaren MP4-12C, among others. Under the instruction and guidance of seasoned professionals, amateur drivers can learn racing fundamentals and safety procedures, all while having the the experience recorded through onboard cameras. While three-lap packages is where it began, this weekend, the action gets even bigger with the introduction of the half-day Supercar Academy, which compliments extended 10, 15, and 20-lap experiences.

The 2014 Chicago Auto Show opened it's doors to the public this weekend (running through February 17th), but on Friday, The Rock Father participated in the media preview to get an early look at hundreds of new offerings and concept vehicles from the world's top automakers. Doing what I do, I'm always torn on how to cover such an event - I run a "family" site, but my personal interests skew toward the... more exciting at times. While my daily drivers here at Rock Father HQ bear the Chevrolet and Scion nameplates, performance, sport and luxury all strike my fancy. What I'm saying is that my inaugural coverage of the Chicago Auto Show is more of a highlight reel of what caught my eye... and that's as simple as it gets. Hopefully I'll get to go in-depth with some of these vehicles, as well as some more family-centric rides as the year rolls on.
