I was really out of the STAR WARS collecting game when Hasbro began releasing their highly-detailed figures and vehicles under THE VINTAGE COLLECTION label a few years back, having also missed-out on THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY and SAGA Collections that preceded them. What particularly grabs me now are the vehicles - HUGE, mostly to-scale versions of the classics, finally in proper size. The one that I do have is THE VINTAGE COLLECTION Slave-1 (featured here), but I really wish I'd scored the AT-AT or one of today's featured vehicles from Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar - the X-Wing Fighter and Imperial TIE Fighter. These are featured as a nod to the birthday of John Dykstra, the ILM legend that took the lead in developing innovative techniques used during the first STAR WARS film.

THE ROCK FATHER has partnered with Life of Dad and Pop Secret for the STAR WARS™ #PopWars promotion™ #PopWars promotion, and was compensated more handsomely than a Bounty Hunter working under the orders of Jabba the Hutt for his participation.

There are few Pop Culture phenomenons big enough to warrant their own section here on THE ROCK FATHER, but the biggest is the one you'll be hearing about from me nearly every day until (and probably after) the December 18, 2015 theatrical release of J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS™: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Of course, it's STAR WARS™, and not just the films, but the entire lifestyle that surrounds it - from the toys and games, to the... well, food. This year, The Force is Strong with my friends at Pop Secret, who along with my brothers at Life of Dad have formed a Rebel Alliance to launch the #PopWars Pre-Popped Popcorn Video Contest, in which YOU can show your true mastery of The Force for a chance at over $1,000.00 in Pop Secret and STAR WARS™ prizes! It's all in celebration of the latest addition to the Pop Secret line of Pre-Popped Popcorn - "Extra Cheesy." Word at Mos Eisley is that it's Chewbacca's flavor of choice, but you won't have to pull the ears off a Gundark to get it!

Today's entry in Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar focuses on an item that everyone I knew as a child had. It wasn't really a "toy," as much as a place to store the toys you already had... the Kenner STAR WARS Action Figures. The Kenner STAR WARS Darth Vader Collector's Case was the one I had - and probably the most common of the bunch. Then there was the C-3PO version (I used to have a late 90s reproduction of that one) and the famed Chewbacca Bandolier Strap. Check out the vintage commercial for the Vader case below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

When it comes to the secondary characters in the first STAR WARS movie, 1977's EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE, few have as much additional backstory of "what might have been" than Biggs Darklighter - the X-Wing pilot portrayed by actor Garrick Hagon. While audiences didn't see him until the Battle of Yavin, where he (as "Red 3") joined Luke Skywalker ("Red 5") and Wedge Antilles ("Red 2") in their attack run on the Death Star trench, Biggs was originally slated to appear in several scenes that were shot and subsequently cut from the final film. Over the years, Biggs has received the action figure treatment a few times, most recently as part of THE BLACK SERIES in 2013. That figure (still available on Amazon) is featured as today's entry in the Force Friday Countdown Calendar, and featured here on THE ROCK FATHER as flanked by other Rebel pilots and members of the infamous ROGUE SQUADRON.

Now, right about now, I expect that you might be wondering - "Why is today's entry into Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar being displayed inside of a refrigerator filled with Diet Mountain Dew?" The answer, young Padawan, is that I have exactly zero interest in the FIGHTER PODS toys - absolutely none. It's a weird thing for the STAR WARS realm, but Hasbro's line of "Intergalactic Battle" pods were just enough of a blip for me to say "pass" on - again, surprising, because usually the Hasbro team hits the mark for me. So yes, I placed the countdown calendar inside the 'fridge here in my office. Diet Mountain Dew Mtn Dew is the Official Soft Drink of Rock Father HQ, though no one as PepsiCo is aware of that. Unofficially official, you could say - but primary fuel aside from coffee. I was trying to make it interesting. Besides, Pepsi Products are generally corporate licensing partners with STAR WARS, so I'd assume they will be when THE FORCE AWAKENS is released, right?

Grand Moff Tarkin. When the first STAR WARS was released in 1977, not much was known about this member of the Imperial Forces... but it sure seemed like he had Darth Vader at his disposal. In 2015, audiences are getting to know more about Tarkin through STAR WARS REBELS, but the way the character was originally - and villainously - inhabited by actor Peter Cushing will always be remembered. This veteran actor of the Hammer Films' horror series brought his menace to a galaxy far, far away, and would've turned 102, had he lived to see today. Peter Cushing was born on May 26, 1913, and his entry into the Hasbro Force Friday Countdown Calendar celebrates THE VINTAGE COLLECTION action figure of Grand Moff Tarkin that was released in 2012. Up top, the calendar is pictured here at Rock Father HQ, flanked by his earlier, POWER OF THE FORCE figure.
