Bad Lip Reading is one of YouTube's finest channels, and one permanently marked with "legendary" status here at Rock Father HQ thanks to their Star Wars parody, SEAGULLS! (Stop It Now) - A Bad Lip Reading of The Empire Strikes Back. Our four-year-old has the song and it's dialogue breaks completely memorized. Now comes a new trip into a galaxy far, far away with THE FORCE AWAKENS: A Bad Lip Reading (featuring Mark Hamill as Han Solo). It's almost overdue that they're just now getting to THE FORCE AWAKENS, but it's a good clip - one in which Han Solo (indeed, voiced by Luke Skywalker himself) has a language barrier issue with Admiral Ackbar (who's first name is "Bill"), in addition to some pretty exciting moments while looking for the gift shop at Starkiller Base alongside Rey, Finn and Chewbacca. Check it out below...
You knew it was coming, and today it's been 100% confirmed - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is getting a reissue just in-time for the coming Holiday season... as a 4-Disc 3D Collector's Edition Blu-ray set. While I personally don't have a 3D set-up here at Rock Father HQ, I am curious about all the new bonus features and never-before-shared deleted scenes that are coming in this set - along with a commentary by filmmaker J.J. Abrams. Check out a brief teaser below, along with all the specs on this exciting new package!
Mattel's collaboration with Lucasfilm to create diecast vehicles with roots in a galaxy far, far away dates back to 2014, and without a doubt the major success has been the line of Hot Wheels STAR WARS Character Cars (view the checklist here). Now comes the next chapter, with the summer 2016 SDCC debut of Hot Wheels STAR WARS Carships! Launched with the release of an exclusive set for SDCC, more Carships have been racing into retailers and flying off the pegs. For the spring of 2017, new packaging featuring the STAR WARS 40th Anniversary branding began hitting stores.
"Exclusive" toys and collectibles are a double-edged sword - on one side they can be fantastic pieces made to mark a special event or occasion, but on the other they can be difficult to get and sometimes a smack in the face to those who would love to own them, but just can't attend the event or afford the ridiculous aftermarket prices. For the summer of 2016, two that fit the bill are the beautiful new STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 6" action figures being offered by Hasbro at San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC), FanExpo Canada and STAR WARS Celebration Europe. Yesterday afternoon my friends at Hasbro sent over a look at two new depictions of Obi-Wan Kenobi (A NEW HOPE) and Kylo Ren (THE FORCE AWAKENS), each packaged with some excellent accessories. Take a look...
Their adventures took place decades apart, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... but Clone Captain CT-7567 and Stormtrooper FN-2187 have a lot in common. The former served in THE CLONE WARS, eventually becoming known as "Rex" and breaking The Empire's control and falling out of sight until former Jedi Ahsoka Tano arranged a meeting between he and the crew of The Ghost in STAR WARS REBELS. In THE FORCE AWAKENS, the latter would break free of The First Order, becoming known as "Finn" and joining The Resistance. Both men were at one point simply a series of letters and numbers in the eyes of their keepers - expendable soldiers in the service of evil. In reality, they were some of the greatest heroes, and kicking off on STAR WARS Day 2016, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine is giving readers a chance to win these characters - each as newly-released action figures from the Hasbro STAR WARS collection!
When the original STAR WARS Saga (aka "The Old Trilogy") first rolled out between 1977 and 1983, it was a great time to be a kid, though one that seems archaic by modern standards. Back then, viewing STAR WARS was an experience that was reserved as a cinema-only event... unless you were among a very select few that were lucky enough to have an RCA SelectaVision player (video disks that were encased in a square plastic cartridge), or one of the early VHS machines. Even then, you couldn't watch 1977's STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE at home until the latter half of 1982. For our family, it was when HBO scored the rights to STAR WARS in 1983 that we'd get to see it at home on the small, square, screen. In fact, I distinctly remember eating Aurelio's Pizza while watching the film, the brightly-colored wicker paper plate holders still fresh in my mind. For us, the STAR WARS adventures were brought to life and continued daily through Kenner's STAR WARS collection of action figures, playsets and vehicles, with the films essentially recalled from memory. Being there the first time around, it's astounding to think that families in 2016 were able to enjoy J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS at home... a mere four months after its theatrical debut. But like their parents before them, our girls are creating their own STAR WARS adventures daily with Hasbro's extensive collection of STAR WARS toys, and to celebrate the in-home release of THE FORCE AWAKENS earlier this month, our friends at Hasbro sent a box of goodies so we could have a slightly belated premiere party right here at Rock Father HQ. And we did it with pizza... just like back in '83!
