Netflix #StreamTeamOn Friday, December 22, there's a new Netflix Original Series making its debut that's a perfect binge for the holiday break. THE TOYS THAT MADE US is an all-new look at some of the most iconic toy lines of all-time, and they're rolling out the first season with some heavy hitters. While it's not embeddable (yet), a full trailer just launched on Netflix (see it here), and in honor of the release of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, a special sneak-preview of the Star Wars episode was released as well (see that below). In fact, amid all that vintage Kenner glory, you just might see a shot of yours-truly when the episode streams this Friday. I provided them with something that may be in there, but that's just a tiny piece of the overall puzzle. From Hasbro's G.I. Joe & Transformers to Mattel's Barbie and He-Man and The Masters of the Universe, there's a lot of history about to be told, with additional season one episodes set to focus on Hello Kitty, Star Trek and LEGO.

For being as immersed in tech as I am, I'm not a big "messaging" guy. I'm not a fan of the text-speak, I just started using emojis, and when it comes to GIF reponses, my defacto is The Emperor from RETURN OF THE JEDI with "GOOD, GOOD." above it. That said, quick-text GIF stories are all the rage right now, and I've even seen some of my daughters' little friends (I still shudder to think that these kids are the "under 10" crowd) breaking them out.  So what's the new one I expect to see getting a lot of use in the months ahead? The Hello Kitty StoryGIF App is a solid bet, the first release to come from Zoobe Message Entertainment's partnership with Sanrio.

Holiday Wish GuideWith HELLO KITTY celebrating her 40th Anniversary this year, it's almost a wonder that I haven't featured more of Sanrio's biggest star here on the site. After all, my girls have more HELLO KITTY stuff than I can count, from clothes to plushies, DVDs to toothbrushes... and a few of the MEGA Bloks sets that have been coming out over the past couple of years. The latest of the bunch is one that MEGA Brands sent us for review, the HELLO KITTY Fun at the Fair Set (10956), a 233-piece affair geared toward builders ages 5-12. Well-received here at Rock Father HQ and built with assistance from yours truly, this new one lands firmly in my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide.

If you caught my blog entry for August 7th, you already know that 8/7 is a date that holds massive significance for our family. One reason is that it's Adalyn's birthday, and this year, Addie turned four. She's the reason that this site exists (well, if you get really technical, you could say this site exists because I had sex with my wife at some point in the Fall of 2008), and I've long held that I wish I'd started The Rock Father upon her birth in 2009 rather than waiting until 2011. While I don't have her first two birthdays documented here on the site (I may correct that), I started a tradition of sharing her party starting with #3 last year, and here we are with #4. Yes, Addie is now "four, just like Caillou!", as she keeps reminding me, which makes me think we should've waited to do a Caillou-themed party until this year (it was last year's), but that's ok... Hello Kitty stepped up to the thematic challenge. But that was for a party on August 10th...

Back to School. I do believe that this is the very first Back to School post that I've ever done on The Rock Father. While we didn't have a real "break" since we kept her in activities this summer at the same place... with the same teachers... and mostly the same class... our oldest will be Back to Preschool this Fall, and that got me thinking about one of the coolest aspects of the season: New supplies. That said, I'd been looking at lunch boxes (and totes and bags) and decided to compile some of my favorites here on the site. Take a peek at the list below. I've even given you some rock to listen to while browsing...

Last year, legendary rockers and kings of cross-merchandising, KISS teamed up with Sanrio for a line of "KISS x Hello Kitty" products. A lot of hardcore rock fans balked at the idea, but the line was hugely successful - so much that it's spawned a new TV series that's in-development at The Hub right now. KISS Hello Kitty (working title) "will feature the four KISS x Hello Kitty characters living their rock 'n' roll dreams and bringing pink anarchy to every situation they are in.
