Apple is showing off the power of the iPhone XS — specifically, when it comes to video. In honor of Earth Day, the tech giant showed off some new footage by Camp4 Collective, all shot using the iPhone XS. "Don't Mess with Mother" features stunning nature imagery set to Megadeth's "Last Rites," a song taken from the band's 1984 debut album, Killing is My Business... and Business is Good! The album has been reissued, remastered, and enhanced several times over the years, most recently for last year's "The Final Kill" edition — released on Century Media Records.
It was one of the worst-kept secrets in all of rock these past few weeks, but now it's 100% official: Chris Adler, drummer of LAMB OF GOD, will join bassist David Ellefson and Dave Mustaine, the creative driving force behind MEGADETH for the recording of MEGADETH's forthcoming 15th studio album. Adler will be appearing as a guest on the album during the in-progress recording sessions.
With the New Year upon us, my friends at Roma Music Group have wasted no time in getting back into the swing of things with some new music for babies... that rock. Out this week from their massive TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE ROCK STAR line is LULLABY VERSIONS OF MEGADETH, a twelve-song set of metal classics from Dave Mustaine and the boys, all re-worked into soothing instrumental jams for your youngest little thrashers. Word on the street is that PAPA ROACH and STAIND are getting the lullaby treatment pretty soon as well, but in the meantime, check out the full tracklisting for this one, along with a stream of "Symphony of Destruction" below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER!
For the past few years, the crew over at Roma Music Group has been releasing lullaby albums based on the biggest names in music through their Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star line - a collection that I've covered extensively here on THE ROCK FATHER. What had been flying under my radar until recently is a line of tributes they've been releasing by the MIDNITE STRING QUARTET. Now, string tributes are nothing new, but the library that Roma has assembled here is impressive. Already, they have releases based around DEFTONES, METALLICA, PANTERA, SLIPKNOT, ASKING ALEXANDRIA, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and more - with albums based on the works of ADELE, PARAMORE, FALL OUT BOY, PANIC AT THE DISCO, RADIOHEAD and more due out within the next few weeks. Take a look at the rundown of what's out, all available on iTunes and Amazon.
With all of the "rock" and "metal" Christmas albums out there, it's always a wonder that more bands don't get in on the action. TWISTED SISTER has done it. There was that "all-star" WE WISH YOU A METAL XMAS & A HEADBANGING NEW YEAR compilation, and this year actor Christopher Lee released his second metal Xmas EP. The latest band is an unlikely one, much like BAD RELIGION's recent offering. Last night, MEGADETH unveiled their commercial for THRASHING THROUGH THE SNOW: A VERY MEGADETH CHRISTMAS. Check it out, along with an appearance from JENNY LEWIS, who duets with Dave Mustaine for "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
I've said it before, and I find myself saying it again, if only for the new friends that are just finding THE ROCK FATHER and have no knowledge of my past: In a lot of ways, my teen years were like an early-1990s version of ALMOST FAMOUS. But, instead of it being Cameron Crowe hanging with LED ZEPPELIN and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND and writing about the experience for ROLLING STONE, it was me hanging with bands like FAITH NO MORE and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and writing about the experience for regional print 'zines like Oil, Slowfish, and The River Cities' Reader. Thing is, I also had a cable access show. The simply-titled "ZTV" ran for 40+ episodes from it's homebase in the Quad Cities from 1992-1994. One such adventure? A 16-year-old me going one-on-one with Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH in January of 1993. Yes, I had a mullet and a Vic Rattlehead shirt. And it was awesome.
