The 1970s and 1980s were without a doubt the "Golden Age" of COLORFORMS for kids like me. Aside from the classic peel-and-stick vinyl variety of reusable transfers and backgrounds, I distinctly remember my cousins and I having a ton of fun with the Rub n' Play transfer sets where you could make scenes from shows like KNIGHT RIDER and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE by using a pencil and some imagination.  While the Rub n' Play has been gone for awhile, Colorforms has changed hands a few times over the years, most recently finding a home with Out of the Blue Enterprises - a company co-founded by someone I've mentioned before here on the site, Angela C. Santomero, creator of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD, WISHENPOOF!, SUPER WHY! and more. Just in-time for the Holiday Giving Season, Colorforms are back in a big way, with three types of sets: Take Along (MSRP $5.99) Create A Story ($9.99) and Big Wall Playsets ($24.99). Like the sets of years ago, Colorforms feature licensed characters from some of today's biggest pop culture icons like MINIONS, FROZEN, THE AVENGERS, DOC McSTUFFINS, PAW Patrol, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES and SPIDER-MAN.

This weekend, the 13th annual Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTAG) returns to Navy Pier in Chicago for two days of fun, Saturday, November 21, 2015 and Sunday, November 22, 2015. Having covered ChiTAG extensively here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine for the past four years of its run, I've taken a look at this year's schedule and floor plan to highlight five things that we're looking forward to this weekend. With hundreds of participants, there's some familiar faces and some fresh ones that will be exhibiting some of 2015's hottest toys and games (several of which are in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide), appropriately just ahead of Thanksgiving Week and the infamous Black Friday shopping kick-off. Here's a few things to check out... and yes, there will be STAR WARS.

In this digital age, content providers strive to be wherever kids might be, and for Nickelodeon that includes a multitude of devices that comprise the footprint of their digital platform. They've got Apps, eBooks, Games and more, and this year they're getting decked-out for the Holidays with all-new seasonal updates. The folks at Nick just hit THE ROCK FATHER with all the details on which titles are getting a snowy makeover, and I've got all that news to share below. Check it out!

If you've been checking out the annual lists of 2015's Hottest Holiday Toys, one item that's been consistently appearing is Spin Master's PAW Patroller - the rolling command center from the hit Nickelodeon series, PAW Patrol. The PAW Patroller is making an appearance on my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine as well - and I'm declaring it to be not just one of the hottest toys of the season, but one of the year's best overall. After going hands-on with our review sample for over a month as of this writing, the PAW Patroller has proven itself to be worthy of its acclaim - a perfect mix of vehicle and playset, and while it's scored big with The Rock Daughters, it recently hit me that it's sort of a toy that I've been waiting for... since 1982.

For those who are familiar with my writings and photography as "The Rock Father," you already know that my affection for toys runs deep. Over the past few years, toys and the business of play have not only become one of the biggest coverage areas here on the site, but I've also been fortunate to work as a Brand Ambassador and consultant for a number of toymakers - both publicly, and privately. One area of the toy world that tends to get overlooked by the public is no doubt the most important - the inventors, and how their ideas and imagination evolve into the cherished toys that kids around the world get to enjoy. I hadn't seen this particular video until today, and I only discovered it after one of the featured inventors (Jim McCafferty of JMP Creative) followed me on twitter. From Spin Master (already one of our favorite toymakers here at Rock Father HQ) comes "Inventing the Future," a 3½-minute look at some of the creative minds behind some of their coolest toys. Take a look...
