Gardening is a part of our daily routine here at Rock Father HQ. While we've got a lot of basic maintenance-type stuff to do, we occasionally fall into an oddball project, and last month we had one. The removal of The Bush of Doom... and the rebirth of the area from which it came.

New LEGO Castle sets available at shop.LEGO.com now! We're big fans of LEGO here at Rock Father HQ, and as such, we're finally making plans for our first visit to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago. Located in Schaumburg, Illinois at the Streets of Woodfield (right next to Woodfield Mall), the LEGOLAND Discovery Center boasts over 3 million LEGO bricks, a 4D theater, fun activities with LEGO Friends and LEGO Racers, plus a DUPLO Village. Right now, they've even got the LEGO STAR WARS Miniland Display!

Earlier this week, I did a post about 10 Cool Lunch Boxes for Kids. What I didn't touch on then was what to pack in those lunch boxes, and with Back to School season in full-effect, the folks from Annie's, HONEST Kids, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield (all of which have some representation in our fridge & pantry) have stepped-in with an appropriately-named movement called ROCK THE LUNCH BOX. Data shows some interesting numbers when it comes to lunches, and it's something I'm paying attention to - especially since I have one extremely picky eater here at Rock Father HQ. Take a look at the infographic below for some stats...

Marauders Motor ClubEach summer, Chicago's Marauders Motor Club throws the Barnyard Boogie - "A Motor and Music event to raise money and awareness for the fight against Juvenile Diabetes." It's a day of octane-fueled fun, filled with pre-1975 rides, live rockabilly music, vendors, food, camping, a bonfire, and more. Held in Monee, Illinois (where I spent a large part of my youth), the whole event has been taking place on a property known to many as "The Barnyard Boogie Grounds." To me, it's my Uncle Larry's House, as the Marauders Motor Club is run by my cousin, Loren. For a time in the mid-1990s, he and I spent many nights jamming in that Barn as part of a short-lived band called Epileptic Caesar. Now, our kids dance in front of it during the Barnyard Boogie, though it's been said that this is the last year it will be held at Uncle Larry's place, as it may move for 2014. With Monee over 100 miles from Rock Father HQ, getting there means a road trip, and this year it's been fueled by my friends at Contigo.

Back to School: 10 Cool Lunch Boxes for Kids

Written by

Back to School. I do believe that this is the very first Back to School post that I've ever done on The Rock Father. While we didn't have a real "break" since we kept her in activities this summer at the same place... with the same teachers... and mostly the same class... our oldest will be Back to Preschool this Fall, and that got me thinking about one of the coolest aspects of the season: New supplies. That said, I'd been looking at lunch boxes (and totes and bags) and decided to compile some of my favorites here on the site. Take a peek at the list below. I've even given you some rock to listen to while browsing...

This is a mean-looking ride. From Toy State's DUB Garage Collection (created with the crew from DUB Magazine) comes the BEAT MAKERZ Dub Edition l331 Muscle Car. One of these free-wheeling toy cars recently arrived for testing in in The Rock Father's State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house, yard, sidewalk), and now it's time to share some thoughts on it.
