Consider this as "Unholy Manipulator" Re-Revisited... and how is PRODUCT OF HATE connected to THE GOLDBERGS?

For whatever reason, October always seems to be an important month for PRODUCT OF HATE. This year, the band finds themselves in a holding pattern as the finishing touches are placed on their second full-length album, currently being mixed and mastered by Chris Collier (PRONG, Flotsam & Jetsam, KXM) at CMC21 Productions in Santa Clarita, California for a 2019 release. While the Halloween season for 2018 has work continuing behind-the-scenes to ready the next era for the band, the season brings with it some perennial favorites, and as I've noted in the past, I've had the good fortune to be a part of a few... one of which is PRODUCT OF HATE's UNHOLY MANIPULATOR. Whether you call it a "short film" or a "longform music video," it's a pretty special thing in that when we created it, the video paired the then-unsigned band with HELLRAISER star Ashley Laurence (who'd also appeared in Slipknot's "Snuff") and some big talent behind the camera (see below). And then there's the fact that yours truly handled directing/editing duties. The video gained a life of its own, eventually helping to secure the band a deal with Napalm Records, who issued PRODUCT OF HATE's debut album, BURIED IN VIOLENCE back in 2016. The video itself was originally released independently in 2012, reissued by Napalm for Halloween 2015, and it will forever live on as I feature it in 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine once more! Evil monsters... wicked clowns... homages to RESERVOIR DOGS, FARGO, and THE WARRIORS... see it below!

Nope, you're not having deja vu, though I did say that exact same thing once before. You see, the Halloween season brings with it some perennial favorites, and over the stretch of some years and some past lives, I've had the good fortune to be a part of a few... one of which is PRODUCT OF HATE's UNHOLY MANIPULATOR. Whether you call it a "short film" or a "longform music video," it's a pretty special thing in that it paired the then-unsigned band with HELLRAISER's Ashley Laurence (who'd also appeared in Slipknot's "Snuff") and some big talent behind the camera (see below). My wife and I have been attending the Wizard World Comic Con Chicago (previously dubbed simply "Wizard World Chicago") off-and-on since 1999. We started attending as fans, and in large part I credit the event as giving me the inspirational push to jump into my own creative endeavors at the beginning of the 21st century. By 2003/2004, we'd become exhibitors in the "Small Press" area, showing off my short films and selling some wares. In the years that would follow, my path would change, and by 2008 I was a listed guest, and my comic book DEATH WALKS THE STREETS would launch at Wizard World with an exclusive variant that the late Comics Buyer's Guide declared a "Must-Have Convention Variant." Strange times, indeed - and then I became "The Rock Father," and our convention-going came to an end - but not until one last round in 2010 when Addie was still in a baby carrier. So here we are in 2015, and man has Wizard World changed...

There's a very slight chance that you might be having deja vu right now, as I did include the longform music video for PRODUCT OF HATE's THE UNHOLY MANIPULATOR in last year's 31 Days of Halloween. Reason it's back? I directed and edited the video, and it just became an Official Selection of the 2014 Open Wound Horror Film Festival, which means that those attending the Santa Fe Comic-Con next weekend will get a chance to see it on the big screen. When we filmed this, we'd always hoped that it would become something of a "perennial favorite" for each Halloween season, and that looks to be happening. After all, it's got some fairly horrific elements, and since I do run a family site, I wouldn't recommend this one for viewing around kids or at work (unless you work somewhere really cool).

Doing a site that's largely family-friendly (sans the "For Grownups" section), it's always weird to think that I have a whole body of work that I can't share with my kids. Not yet, anyway. Between the music, films, videos, and comics I've done in the past, there's actually not really anything that's kid-friendly (again, not yet), but most of it came before I became I parent. Most, but not all. I give you PRODUCT OF HATE - THE UNHOLY MANIPULATOR (IMDb) a long-form music video that I directed and edited... a video that was released for Halloween 2012, but never properly featured here on The Rock Father. I should warn you, it's NSFW (not-safe-for-work), unless you happen to work somewhere really cool. It's Day 15 of 31 Days of Halloween 2013, and I'm going to show you the video and tell you a story...
