LADY GAGA has announced a spring tour dubbed THE BORN THIS WAY BALL. ''The Haus of Gaga and I have worked for months conceiving a spectacular stage,'' said the Mother Monster. ''The Born This Way Ball" is an Electro-Metal Pop-Opera; the tale of the Beginning, the genesis of the Kingdom of Fame. How we were birthed and how we will die celebrating.''
RIFF ROCKIT released his self-titled debut album last month, bestowing his conceptual form of ''kindie rock'' upon the little ones far and wide. As the music was hitting the market, Rockit's real-life alter-ego EVAN MICHAEL was finalizing plans for something even more important - a run at raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Michael was first diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of Leukemia (AML) just 15 years ago, and fortunately he's been cancer-free for 11 years after ''initially undergoing chemotherapy, two years of remission, a full disease relapse in 2000, and receiving the allogenic bone marrow transplant that finally saved his life.''
I learned something last night - my wife doesn't like Humpty Dumpty. She said she doesn't like anything about it, starting with the classic tale itself. I was showing my daughter this new video for Humpty Dumpty Plays Bass and Falls Off the Wall from GROOVE KID NATION's MUSIC IN MOTION album (released last year), and while she loved it - my wife was still a bit hesitant. ''I don't know where this is going,'' she said with a sly look on her face. I had no idea that she had such disdain for Humpty. What my daughter really digs about the video below is that Humpty rocks a ''fish-shaped bass.''
TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE ROCK STAR has expanded their pop music lullaby line to 59 albums with the release THE RAT PACK-inspired LULLABY VERSIONS OF FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN, and SAMMY DAVIS JR. Being a big fan of all-things Rat Pack (at last count there were at least seven photos of the gang on my office walls) and having a newborn set for arrival this summer, this one has my interest. Check out the Lullaby version of the Theme from New York, New York, below - along with the full tracklisting.
I used to work in a record store. Actually, I managed a Sam Goody store in a past life, then I helped out in my friend's indie shop called Dog Ear Movies & Music for a few weeks during the holidays one year. Those were some of the best times I ever experienced while working a ''real job,'' but like anything - there were downsides. Usually, it was ignorant customers to blame for the daily headaches, mainly the ones that perceive all record store employees to be elitist hipsters. If a customer left feeling that way, it was probably because they asked the wrong questions.
