For years, tales of haunted toy stores have spread as urban legends, like the fabled Toys "R" Us in Sunnyvale, California - one said to be so frightening, it's inspired decades of theories and once appeared on an episode of Haunted Lives: True Ghost Stories, directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist) and narrated by Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy. While the iconic retailer closed its doors here in the U.S. back in June, there is a chance for you to take a stroll through a Toys "R" Us once more, but not one of the many currently inhabited by pop-up stores like Spirit Halloween or Party City's Halloween City / Toy City combos... a haunted Toys "R" Us. For one month only, those who are brave enough have the opportunity to visit ZOMBIES 'R' US - "A New Haunted Experience" located inside the former Toys "R" Us location in College Point (aka Flushing, NY) Queens.

This new haunt takes advantage of a Toys "R" Us store in a high-profile location - one of the glass-fronted stores that still has its signage in place and had much of the fixturing left behind. When it first hit my radar a few weeks back, there was hardly any information to be found, and still there's a surprising lack of info despite just a short time left until Halloween. Here's what the folks behind the haunt have to say...

Human life no longer exists. Zombies have taken over society. Main goal: Stay Alive. Walk through the abandoned store aisles where zombies lurk at every corner ready to attack. Welcome to Zombies "R" Us. Will you survive?

Tickets are $15-$35 via Eventbrite, with ZOMBIES "R" US open for business on select dates now through November 2, 2018. I think it's a great idea, but a repeat performance will likely have to find a new location should it be back for 2019. As with most former TRU locations, this 50,000 square-foot building is prime real estate that's currently looking for a full-time inhabitant.

Can you last 15 minutes in ZOMBIES "R" US? Find out at  30-02 Whitestone Expy Flushing, NY 1135 or visit https://www.zombiesrusnyc.com/ for details.
