When I was a kid, I was aware of NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and funny cars. At the time, I had some assorted Hot Wheels versions of them and they were played with quite often. While I had the general idea of what they did (go fast in a straight line!), I had no idea what kind of mechanics were involved, and even as an adult that got into racing, that world sort of escaped me until recently. I've written about the transition from the track to the street before, but I'd not thought much about the drag racing side of things until I met up with the crew from Pennzoil Performance to attend the recent NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. There are things that can apply to you, and I'm sharing that knowledge here, along with some facts about NHRA Top Fuel racing!

Is it possible that toys can help children learn to deal with their emotions? While we've discussed a variety of "learning" toys at length over the years, I've never really written about the emotional consequences or benefits of play. Of course, toys are a big part of the emotional development of a child, but the possibilities have perhaps never been quite as defined as they are with the new toys based on Disney•Pixar's INSIDE OUT. As family films become more layered and sophisticated (Walt Disney Animation Studios' BIG HERO 6 is a prime recent example), the subject matter lends itself to opening up important conversations about life issues, and emotion is what INSIDE OUT is all about. On one of our recent visits to Toys "R" Us, The Rock Daughters™ (Addie & Finn) and I couldn't resist checking out the new assortment of INSIDE OUT toys by TOMY, displayed in the "Feature" section at the front of the store.
The 28th Annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards will be broadcast on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT, and this year, Capri Sun Roarin' Waters is on-board as the Official Drink Sponsor. Here at Rock Father HQ, the girls and I have already been prepping for the show, and the first thing we did was get our votes in. As you might've already gathered from reading my site (and if you're reading these words now, I assume you've read others), when it comes to Nickelodeon, there are four words that reign supreme for The Rock Daughters (Addie and Finn): TEENAGE. MUTANT. NINJA. TURTLES.

While I get to drive and feature a lot of sweet new rides here on THE ROCK FATHER, a big part of our day-to-day is taking care of the ones that we own. My wife and I have a pair of "daily drivers" here at HQ, and the oldest is the one most-often featured when I talk about car care - my rapidly-aging 2005 Scion Xb. While I've come very close to replacing it over these past few years, I do have some sentimental attachment to it, having ordered it brand-new back in 2004 with a bunch of options and add-ons. I've had many adventures in that little car - over 150,000 miles worth - and that places it firmly in the category of being a "high mileage vehicle." One of the most simple things to help keep that car on the road for a few more years is by keeping the oil changed, and the folks at Pennzoil have a "High Mileage Vehicle" version of their conventional motor oil that's specifically designed to help clean out sludge that lesser oils leave behind, while helping to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. Better yet, I can get my oil changed at the Walmart Auto Center, maximizing my time by getting some shopping done at the same time.

'Tis the Season to be Messy...
When the tree goes up here at Rock Father HQ each November, I take it as a glowing signal that the season of finding tree needles has begun. That season lasts the next eleven months, of course, and said needles seemingly appear out of nowhere, sometimes immediately after clean-up has taken place, and in odd locations at random intervals. The mix of the artificial (we have two trees up and some garland on the rails) and the natural (wreath on the front door, evergreen around the porch) can be a tricky task to handle, and it's all thrown into a time when additional messes from the culinary and crafting adventures are also on the rise. Thankfully, this year I've been able to add a new tool to my mess-eliminating arsenal with my new Electrolux Ergorapido Limited Edition Realtree Xtra Camo, Cordless 2-in-1 Stick and Handheld Vacuum. Yes, it's a Camo-covered vacuum, so it falls into that "Camo fetish" that I've mentioned in at least nine different articles on this very site, but I digress.
