I'm a big fan of surprise releases, and that's just what Justin Timberlake served-up this week, announcing a February 2 release for his next LP, MAN OF THE WOODS. While an unexpected album announcement was news on its own, now comes the first single and a Mark Romanek-directed video. "Filthy" features Timberlake as a tech icon - a robot inventor with a Steve Jobs vibe - at a conference in the not-so-distant future. Check it out below...

I don't know that most people expected DreamWorks' Trolls to be as big as it's been, particularly on the spin-off front. With its colorful characters, vibrant world, sing-along soundtrack and positive message, kids have been inspired to create their own Trolls-inspired projects that keep the spirit of "happy" going long after the end credits have rolled. Now, with the film having come home on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD, my friends at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have partnered with a variety of writers and creative types (including yours truly) to come up with some fun projects to do at home. Armed with a box of supplies graciously delivered by the folks at Fox, The Rock Daughters™ and I set out to craft something awesome. Thing is, I realized after we were well underway that I'm just not very good at the whole "crafting" thing, and that there's others out there who have some really impressive project ideas. But, that's actually not what's important - the real importance is in having fun and fostering creativity, no matter how things turn out.

Netflix Stream TeamAs we get ready to turn the page on November and go full-steam-ahead into December, time spent with family will come into clearer focus as the year comes to a close. For many, spending time with family also means catching up with some favorite fictional families, and this past month brought the long-awaited return of the Gilmores, who came to Netflix with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. In the interest of full-disclosure, despite my gig as a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I've never seen Gilmore Girls, though in one of my past lives, Alexis Bledel's name was at one time thrown around in casting meetings for something I'd written that didn't end up being produced. Weird how things work out. But as fictional families go, one that I'm particularly excited about is back again for new adventures on December 9 when Season Two of Fuller House begins streaming. But have you ever noticed that most on-screen families are comfortingly unusual, and possibly less functionally-dysfunctional than the reality that they mirror? Here's a few interesting family choices that await you on Netflix.... and many of them will now be available whenever you want, online and off...

The 56th GRAMMY Awards airs tonight at 8pm/7c on CBS, and if predictions are your thing, you might be interested to know what Spotify thinks of tonight's field. While I'm of the mindset that the GRAMMYS are still vastly out-of-touch and largely unimportant (they good straighten out, but choose not to), it's still fun to take a stab at what the GRAMMY voters have picked. Utilizing stream data from their user base, the Spotify team has issued their picks in some key categories, this coming after correctly predicting the Record of the Year and Album of the Year wins in 2013. Check out their 2014 picks and notes below...

As we close the books on 2013, it's only appropriate that I feature this latest mashup from DJ Earworm. Having started his annual UNITED STATE OF POP series several years ago (2007, I think), they've become a tradition in recapping a full year's worth of pop hits in one masterful mashup.  "United State of Pop 2013 (Living the Fantasy)" was released earlier this month and features 25 of the year's biggest hits, all worked into one mix, complete with a video. It's "clean," too, which makes it family-friendly. Check it out below...
