What a month for award show screw-ups, right? Not a month prior to the massive mess that closed out this year's Academy Awards, a technical problem managed to botch what should've been (and to an extent, still was) an explosive performance by Metallica with Lady Gaga. While a fan tried fixing the audio using another live recording of "Moth Into Flame" to replace James Hetfield's missing vocals (since scrubbed from most of the internet), today we have the real deal, thanks to newly-released dress rehearsal footage. Yes, it's always awkward to hear the canned "crowd noise" that bookends these things - especially devoid of audience - but I think this performance is entertaining, and it sounds great when heard as it should've been during the 59th Annual Grammy Awards last month. Here's a 'Monster' Spotify Playlist...

What makes a monster song? For many reasons, the title "Monster" is one that is often used by a host of artists that transcend genres. From Product of Hate's blistering metal single (for which I directed the music video), to Kanye West's legendary collaboration with Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Bon Iver... from the pop stylings of Lady Gaga and Paramore to the folksy grooves of Mumford & Sons... and from the metallic crunch of Disturbed to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, countless artists have birthed their own "Monster." To celebrate this oddity is to enjoy it together, and I've curated a new Spotify Playlist featuring 23 distinct songs (nearly an hour and a half of music) that share just one similarity - the single-word title, "Monster." Stream it in the web player below, or click here to follow the playlist on Spotify.

Living in Chicago's northern suburbs, Ravinia is a favorite concert venue for our family - a short drive from Rock Father HQ. Next summer, there's a special event taking place as TONY BENNETT returns to Ravinia for his 28th season, while LADY GAGA makes her Ravinia debut as the duo perform songs from their recently-released album, CHEEK TO CHEEK on June 26 & 27, 2015. Early details just hit my inbox a few moments ago, revealing that the pair will be accompanied by a full orchestra, along with each artist's jazz ensembles.

As we close the books on 2013, it's only appropriate that I feature this latest mashup from DJ Earworm. Having started his annual UNITED STATE OF POP series several years ago (2007, I think), they've become a tradition in recapping a full year's worth of pop hits in one masterful mashup.  "United State of Pop 2013 (Living the Fantasy)" was released earlier this month and features 25 of the year's biggest hits, all worked into one mix, complete with a video. It's "clean," too, which makes it family-friendly. Check it out below...
