It's 11:30pm and I'm listening to "Ghastly," one of the new songs on OMEN OF DISEASE, the forthcoming album from reformed Chicago Death Metallers BROKEN HOPE. The kids are in bed... so is the wife, so I can have a little old-school evil emitting from my speakers. Truth be told, BH bassist Shaun Glass is a friend - a fellow "Rock Father" himself - and someone I've done work for in the past. If you dig the hard stuff, you, too can be listening to "Ghastly" in a few moments... it's being offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD via Century Media Records!

As first mentioned here on The Rock Father in early July, September will mark the 20th Anniversary of NIRVANA's 1993 album, IN UTERO. As with BLEACH and NEVERMIND before it, IN UTERO will see a celebratory reissue in several configurations. Of even greater interest to many (myself included) is the full release of the 1993 LIVE & LOUD concert from Seattle. Check out the full specs below...

If you spin it back to the beginning, August 11, 1973 is viewed by many to be the true beginning of Hip-Hop as a movement. As a kid from the South Suburbs of Chicago, I felt the influence of hip-hop from a young age (starting in elementary school in Chicago Heights), eventually making Yo! MTV Raps an after-school stable. Ed Lover and Dr. Dre introduced me to a new world of music, that even in my later, metal-loving years, has a lot of respect here at Rock Father HQ. Now, my friends at PBS are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Hip-Hop with a special section, and an Independent Lens special. Check out videos on PBS.org, or check out HIP-HOP: BEYOND BEATS AND RHYMES below...

Now here's a tour that would make a great "Grownups Night Out," especially for those with an affection for 1990s alternative rock. A rep for FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE just hit The Rock Father with details on their Fall trek, which will also feature SOUL ASYLUM and EVAN DANDO of THE LEMONHEADS. The first batch of dates can be found below, with more expected to be announced in the weeks ahead.

October is the perfect month for some old-school Death Metal, and DEICIDE and BROKEN HOPE are hitting the road to serve up just that. While Glen Benton and the crew will be touring in support of DEICIDE's as-yet-undated second offering for Century Media Records, CM labelmates and Chicago favorites BROKEN HOPE will be supporting their long-awaited OMEN OF DISEASE, which hits the streets on October 1. DISGORGE and NECRONOMICON will be joining the trek. Check out the dates below...

It's been more than a decade since CRAZYTOWN (or CRAZY TOWN - not sure what the deal is with spacing) released their second album, DARKHORSE, but now they've announced a return to music with a new album entitled THE BRIMSTONE SLUGGERS. Bret "Epic" Mazur and Seth "Shifty Shellshock" Binzer have thrown down roots for a new online presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, and have issued a brief teaser of their new music. Check it out below...

THE MATERIAL have been deemed "Buzzworthy" by MTV, with frontwoman Colleen D'Agostino praised for her "towering rock vocals [that] land between [Paramore's] Hayley Williams and Evanescence's Amy Lee." Now, rock fans on the West Coast will get to experience THE MATERIAL doing what they do best when they hit the road in support of the RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS for a brief tour that kicks off this coming Saturday. Check out the dates below, along with their new video for "Life Vest."

METALLICA is going old-school for their new movie, THROUGH THE NEVER. They're putting out a soundtrack, a full, two-disc collection of live tracks recorded at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, where the band filmed all performance footage featured in the film. On September 24, METALLICA: THROUGH THE NEVER (Music from the Motion Picture) will be released on Metallica's own Blackened Recordings. The set just went live on iTunes for Pre-Orders, and will also be released on CD and 33 1/3rpm and limited edition 45rpm vinyl later this fall. Tracks and art below...

On August 1, GRATEFUL DEAD fans will celebrate what would've been the 71st Birthday of JERRY GARCIA. This morning, a cryptic email arrived here at Rock Father HQ... "a teaser of something to come," containing only a baby picture of Jerry Garcia taken back in 1942, stamped with the text, "Something New is Waiting to be Born." The subject of the email? "Don't Let Go of Jerry." What do YOU think this is?

PLAIN WHITE T's Announce Live Concert on AXS TV...

Written by

Chicago-area locals, PLAIN WHITE T's will be the subject of a live broadcast airing August 6 on AXS TV. Their concert takes place at 11:45 p.m. ET at the Summit Music Hall in Denver, Colorado, and to gear-up, AXS TV and PWT are documenting the road to the show over on Tumblr. The band is currently working on a new full-length album, while touring in support of their recent EP, SHOULD'VE GONE TO BED (Hollywood Records).

LIMP BIZKIT"Ready to Go," the new single from STAMPEDE OF THE DISCO ELEPHANTS, the forthcoming album by LIMP BIZKIT, has been circulating since this past March. Now, four months later, the official video for the track has arrived, hitting VEVO yesterday, and racking up over 356,000 plays in just about 24 hours. Not a bad showing for a band that many have written off several times over. I've long held up my love for LIMP BIZKIT over the years, and I dig this song... except for the inclusion of LIL WAYNE, who I'm not a fan of. But Wayne is a CASH MONEY RECORDS labelmate for the BIZKIT, and that pairing may be the exact thing that brings the band back into the mainstream. What do you think of the track and video? Watch it and weigh in below...

GWAR is one of my favorite bands. My wife does not share that love, and has, on occasion, scolded me for wearing blood-soaked GWAR t-shirts in front of small children. My response? I'm THE ROCK FATHER, and GWAR has been providing me with fine metal grooves since I first heard SCUMDOGS OF THE UNIVERSE over two decades ago. Now, the mighty GWAR have announced their 13th studio album, BATTLE MAXIMUS (pre-order NOW on iTunes). Available on September 17th via Metal Blade Records, the album is a tribute to fallen guitarist Flattus Maximus, and the debut of new GWAR-tarist, Pustulus Maximus. Check out some words from the band, along with the new single, "Madness at the Core of Time" below...
