Listen: THE FAINT - "Dress Code"

Written by

On April 8, THE FAINT will release their new album, DOOM ABUSE through SQE Music. After giving listeners a taste with "Help in the Head," the band has today issued a track that sounds straight out of a montage scene in a 1980s teen comedy. Check out "Dress Code" below, and if you dig it, pre-order the album on Amazon or iTunes.

FREE DOWNLOAD: TWIZTID releases new Mixtape...

Written by

Back in 2009, I interviewed TWIZTID during my time running music coverage for FANGORIA. It was in March, a mere five months before I became a parent for the first time, and this site wasn't even in the cards yet. It was a different time, and much has changed for me in the five years passed, and the same can be said for TWIZTID, who've gone out on their own, now separate from Psychopathic Records, the label on which they spent a good 17 years. To celebrate the launch of their own webstore, TWIZTID have released a brand-new mixtape, FOR THE FAM: Volume 2. Listen below, and hit Twiztid Shop for more

On April 1, Rhino Records will release RONNIE JAMES DIO - THIS IS YOUR LIFE, a truly all-star tribute album for the rock icon, with proceeds benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund.  Today, Guitar World premiered a stream of "Rainbow in the Dark" as performed by Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR), Roy Mayorga (STONE SOUR, ex-SOULFLY), Satchel (STEEL PANTHER), Christian Martucci (STONE SOUR), and Jason Christopher (SEBASTIAN BACH, PRONG).

While listeners eagerly await the May release of RUINING LIVES, the new studio album from PRONG, a previously-unannounced surprise arrived earlier this month with the release of UNLEASHED IN THE WEST: LIVE IN BERLIN - THE OFFICIAL BOOTLEG. Recorded live-in-the-studio at Trixx in Berlin, the basic tracks and overdubs were completed over the course of three days during a break in the band's Summer 2013 European Tour. The end result is a furious collection of 17 classic PRONG tracks that span the band's entire career.

UK rockers YOU ME AT SIX aren't a big name here in the 'States just yet, but with the release of CAVALIER YOUTH (Prospect Park/Universal) this past January, the groundwork has been laid. With a U.S. Tour set to begin on April 21, the band has just issued a U.S. remix of their song, "Just Breathe," which you can find streaming below.

TuneCoreIn addition to running this website, I've been known to work with a band or two on occasion. When it comes to digital distribution, I've always been of fan of (and used) TuneCore (even prior to starting an affiliate relationship). In fact, you may have seen a mention or two on here about PRODUCT OF HATE, a metal band that I work with on the management side and have directed some videos for. Their most recent singles? All distributed through TuneCore. Whether you're releasing a digital album, single or ringtone, TuneCore can take care of it. Thanks to TuneCore, we've placed the music of PRODUCT OF HATE on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play, XBOX Music, Rhapsody, eMusic, Muve Music and even the all-new Beats Music. Now the folks at TuneCore have asked me to share with you the news on how you can save big, and keep even more of YOUR MONEY from your digital sales.

sabbath125After getting a digital release earlier this year (available on Amazon MP3 or iTunes), BLACK SABBATH: THE COMPLETE STUDIO ALBUMS 1970-1978 will get a physical release as a box set on April 15 via Rhino (pre-order: Amazon). After forming in 1969, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Terry “Geezer” Butler, and Bill Ward went on to release eight albums with their original lineup, and this clamshell box set collects all of the albums that they recorded for Warner Bros. Records during the 1970’s, including the iconic, eponymous debut (1970), the multi-platinum landmark Paranoid (1970), the platinum albums Master Of Reality (1971), Vol. 4 (1972), and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973),as well as the gold albums Sabotage (1975), Technical Ecstasy (1976), and Never Say Die! (1978).

CROWBAR prepare for SYMMETRY IN BLACK...

Written by

It's a good week for Rock Father-approved music news. Three years after the release of SEVER THE WICKED HAND (which I really dug, and reviewed here), New Orleans' CROWBAR have announced the May 27 North American release of SYMMETRY IN BLACK via eOne (Century Media will release in Europe, a day prior). Here's what frontman Kirk Windstein has to say about the new record...

I'll fully admit that I don't like AWOLNATION's breakthrough hit, "Sail." I just don't find it appealing at all, and in my opinion, it's just not a very good song - and they have plenty of music that's much better. But, you can never tell just what people will latch onto, and that became the big hit... and now DEVILDRIVER has covered it (download: iTunes | Amazon). The version has been out for awhile, and now a lyric video has been released. You know what? They've actually made this particular AWOLNATION tune listenable for THE ROCK FATHER. Check it out below...

One of my top five favorite bands of all-time has a new record hitting the streets on May 13, when PRONG releases RUINING LIVES. Just two years after the release of the excellent CARVED INTO STONE (which I reviewed here on THE ROCK FATHER). Produced by PRONG mastermind TOMMY VICTOR with Steve Evetts (SEPULTURA, HATEBREED) there to add "his shine" to the record, you can imagine that I'm more than a little excited. Here's what Victor has to say about the forthcoming release...

It's no secret that I dig an interesting cover. It's also no secret that I'm a huge fan of Fearless Records' PUNK GOES... series of compilations. Now, with PUNK GOES 90s VOLUME 2 due out on April 1 (Pre-order: iTunes | Amazon), tracks are starting to spring forth, and the latest comes courtesy of ASKING ALEXANDRIA. They've chosen to cover NINE INCH NAILS... but I have to say that their song choice, "Closer" is my least-favorite song by Trent Reznor and the gang. Take a listen to the lyric video below and let me know what you think of it...
