It was thirteen years ago that I bought THE FAINT's DANSE MACABRE? That's the realization that hit me tonight when browsing my emails to find the announcement that THE FAINT's first album since "ceasing to exist" in 2008 is about to hit the streets on April 8. DOOM ABUSE (pre-order now on iTunes) will be released by SQE Music, and today the music video for the first single hit the net. Check out "Help in the Head" below...

Alternative rock outfit The Nearly Deads have announced dates for 'The Survival Tour," running March 8 - 21

Kicking off in Milwaukee, with a co-headlining slot at the inaugural LIAN Riot Music Series, the band then synchs up with Providence, RI rockers It Lives, It Breathes, from March 9 - 21, as they storm Chicago, Allentown, Baltimore, Springfield, Harrisonburg and other cities along the East coast. The band then returns home to Nashville to open for Halestorm at Cannery Ballroom on March 28.

On April 19, 2014, in conjunction with Record Store Day (the annual celebration of independent music retailers), GREEN DAY will release DEMOLICIOUS Demolicious - a collection of 18 demos recorded at Jingletown Studios in Oakland, CA, in 2012 during the sessions for the band's Green Day ¡Uno!, Green Day ¡Dos!, Green Day ¡Tré! album trilogy. The two-disc set will be released on red or clear vinyl, and will also be available on CD and cassette. Additionally, the collection will include the previously-unreleased song, "State of Shock," along with an acoustic version of "Stay the Night." Check out the cover art below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

It's very appropriate to see bands like INFORMATION SOCIETY regrouping and returning to their roots... hearing how many current "alternative" acts have just been aping the 1980s new wave and electronic movements without due credit. Ahead of their summer 2014 album, _HELLO WORLD, Paul Robb (synths), Kurt Larson (vocals) and James Cassidy (bass, keyboards) will be releasing a new single called "Land of the Blind" on March 4 (via HAKATAK International), but you can check out the lyric video today, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

The 2014 BONNAROO Music and Arts Festival is BIG. 125+ musical artists, 20+ comedians, all running 24 hours a day for a full four days, June 12-15 in Manchester, Tennessee. This year's lineup has been revealed, and it's diverse - from legends like SIR ELTON JOHN and LIONEL RICHIE, to megastars like KANYE WEST, the fine rock of CAKE and the metal of MESHUGGAH thrown in. Check it out below...

If you're a BIG fan of the Fearless Records PUNK GOES... series as I am, then this is the news you're waiting for. Here is the full tracklisting for PUNK GOES 90s Volume 2, which is set for release on April 1. Those who purchase the physical CD will also receive a Fearless Records Sampler, presented by Alternative Press (I was in that magazine once... in the 90s). Are you ready?

THE BASEBALL PROJECT to release 3RD on Yep Roc...

Written by

Again, I sit here thinking Spring. The fact is, that in just three days, MLB pitchers and catchers will report for Spring Training, and that means that baseball season will soon be on the way. Now comes word that on March 25, THE BASEBALL PROJECT will release 3rd, their... well, third album of baseball-themed songs. There's 17 all-new tracks on-deck, each covering subjects such as BABE RUTH, HANK AARON, and even LENNY DYKSTRA, all accompanied by a bio penned by journalist Dan Epstein. Tracklisting and details below...

As I sit here at 11:50pm on a Tuesday night, typing this from my office at Rock Father HQ, I look outside at the falling snow and can only wish for Spring. Knowing that it's coming, it's pleasant news to hear that THE BAD PLUS will release their version of Igor Stravinsky's THE RITE OF SPRING, performed as only THE BAD PLUS can - as an ambitious piano/bass/drums trio. Personally, I can't wait to hear what they do with it. Check out the cover art and tracklisting below...

From out of nowhere comes this little tune that you absolutely need to hear, especially if you're into (or not into) the work of TRENT REZNOR or his main creation, NINE INCH NAILS. "This is a Trent Reznor Song" comes from Freddy Scott, whose work I was not familiar with until this landed in my Facebook feed about 20 minutes ago. Yes, this is a parody, but it's also pretty damn endearing. Listen to the song in the soundcloud player below... and crank it up!

The 56th GRAMMY Awards airs tonight at 8pm/7c on CBS, and if predictions are your thing, you might be interested to know what Spotify thinks of tonight's field. While I'm of the mindset that the GRAMMYS are still vastly out-of-touch and largely unimportant (they good straighten out, but choose not to), it's still fun to take a stab at what the GRAMMY voters have picked. Utilizing stream data from their user base, the Spotify team has issued their picks in some key categories, this coming after correctly predicting the Record of the Year and Album of the Year wins in 2013. Check out their 2014 picks and notes below...

Well this is interesting. What could've been a Mashup Monday entry arrived here at Rock Father HQ on a Tuesday, and now I'm sharing it with you on Wednesday. Covers Wednesday, as EXCISION & DOWNLINK have teamed up to offer a FREE DOWNLOAD of "Rock You" - their take on the iconic QUEEN classic, "We Will Rock You." Complete with a Freddie Mercury vocal sample, the track can be streamed or downloaded via the Soundcloud player below.

Fact: There's a JANIS JOPLIN concert poster in my office... one from a show in 1968 that took place at the Fillmore East in New York City. But, it's not actually mine... it's my wife's, as she's the big Janis fan. Now I need to tell her about this - A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN: The Original Broadway Cast Recording, a new collection of 19 songs that showcase Mary Bridget Davies' eerily-accurate performance as Janis, and also includes songs by Joplin's musical influences including Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith. The album was released digitally today (aff: iTunes | Amazon), with CDs available on February 11. Check out the full details below...
