Word rolled into Rock Father HQ today that SMILE EMPTY SOUL will follow-up their next run of headline dates by co-headlining the Chemical Free Tour with (HED)p.e. Dates stretch from mid-February into March, with additional dates expected to be added. Check out the full itinerary below, along with the video for "False Alarm," the first single from SMILE EMPTY SOUL's latest album, CHEMICALS.

For the past few years, BEN DRAIMAN has been growing an audience with his piano-driven music, some of which has been showcased on his EP, THE PAST IS NOT FAR BEHIND (iTunes | Amazon). He's also no stranger to cover songs, and has notably tackled a couple of songs made famous by another Draiman - his brother David, and his band DISTURBED. Last Fall, Ben made waves when his version of "Stricken" (iTunes | Amazon) started making the rounds, but today I'm reaching toward something a little more obscure... in the form of a live cover that Draiman performed last summer in Israel. Check out "I Remember You," originally by SKID ROW, below...

NEON TREES have set an April 22, 2014 release date for their third album, POP PSYCHOLOGY. The first single, "Sleeping With a Friend" just hit iTunes and can be streamed below, right here on The Rock Father. The new record was recorded throughout 2013 in Cabo San Lucas, Los Angeles, and Provo and was produced and mixed by Tim Pagnotta, who also produced the band's smash hits "Animal" and "Everybody Talks".

For today's Mashup Monday, I'm spinning things back about three years for "Hairbangers," a mashup by Fissunix and DJ Schmolli that brought together Willow Smith and Kreator. It's a classic as far as I'm concerned, and one that I've shared elsewhere in the past. In fact, it has a certain vibe or metallic perfection, and I was really hoping to find something newer with the same vibe to share with you in 2014, but alas, there has been none. Should you know of a quality (and I do mean, quality) mashup involving metal, feel free to let me know. In the meantime, let's whip some hair once more...

Yes, after 28 years of threatening the possibility, GWAR are headed for Japan. The band will bring their unique brand of sonic terror to the resting place of Godzilla on Thursday, March 6 at Club Quattro in Osaka, Japan, and Friday, March 7th at Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo.

After releasing a video for "Down in Flames" last month, BLUE STAHLI is back with an official lyric video for "The Fall," the next cut from his recently-released, THE DEVIL: CHAPTER ONE. Check out "The Fall" below...

Wednesday Covers: LIMP BIZKIT x. MINISTRY - "Thieves"

Written by

They've been playing it live for ages (going back at least 15 years), but this past Fall, LIMP BIZKIT unleashed a proper studio version of "Thieves" - their take on the iconic MINISTRY track. While it was available as a free download for a little bit, it doesn't appear to be available for sale anywhere just yet, but should be available on their forthcoming record, STAMPEDE OF THE DISCO ELEPHANTS. I'm featuring it today as my first Wednesday Cover of 2014. Check it out below...

I didn't intend to post a cover song today (that's gonna be a Wednesday thing this year), but this one needs to be an exception. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Fearless Records' long-running PUNK GOES... series, so much so that I'd written a ten-year retrospective back in 2010, and have subsequently reviewed and/or covered every installment since, including the recent PUNK GOES CHRISTMAS. Now comes word that Fearless is prepping for the release of PUNK GOES 90s Volume 2 - and while the tracklisting and exact release date have yet to be revealed, they've already come out swinging with an official single release. Below the jump, check out the lyric video for GET SCARED covering LIT's "My Own Worst Enemy."

Kicking off 2014's new series of "Mashup Mondays" here in the "For Grownups" section of The Rock Father is one of my favorite mashups of the past year. From DJ Lobsterdust comes "Bring Your Own Luck," a track that combines the funk groove of DAFT PUNK's PHARRELL WILLIAMS-led hit, "Get Lucky," with the unmistakable vocals of SYSTEM OF A DOWN's SERJ TANKIAN from "B.Y.O.B." While I might feature others periodically, I'm planning to feature at least one killer mashup here on The Rock Father every Monday throughout the year. Let's rock...

I have to say, since BORDERS went out of business, I have not seen a copy of UK-based METAL HAMMER on the racks anywhere near me. That said, there's a reason why METAL HAMMER is one of the last print mags standing, and they continue to show that every month. For METAL HAMMER 253, their February 2014 issue, they've taken things into STAR WARS territory, with the entire issue taking inspiration from a galaxy far, far away, starting off with a cover by SIXMOREVODKA (said to have the "blessing of LUCASFILM). The mag goes on-sale January 7 (you can order direct from their UK site), or you can subscribe via (my affiliate) Amazon, though you probably won't get this one in time. Take a peek...
