I've featured MOTION DEVICE here on The Rock Father in the past - they're a Canadian band of youngsters fronted by a 10-year-old girl named Sara. Well, the band is back with a new YouTube video and a mission: to pursuade RUSH to allow the band to open for them when they play the Air Canada Centre this October. It's been said that they've received praise from Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Amy Lee, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, and more... but will they capture the attention of Geddy, Alex, and Neil? Check out MOTION DEVICE covering the RUSH classic, "Tom Sawyer" below...

The Warner Sound continues their string of exclusive ''Live Room'' performances this week with a set from ED SHEERAN, recorded live at Hinge Studios in Chicago. You can check out his Nina Simone cover, "Be My Husband" below, or scroll down for his full performance. Weird sidebar? A lifetime ago (11-12 years or so) I interviewed with Hinge producer/engineer Craig Bauer for an internship. I ended up pursuing film classes at the time instead of audio production.

An email landed here at Rock Father HQ last night with a link to CANDLELIGHT RED's new video, 'She's Got the Look.' I figured if it wasn't some variation of the ROXETTE song, 'The Look,' I wouldn't post it. Luckily, it was a straight-up cover with a video shot in a warehouse controlled by the family of Stanley Kubrick. It's a pretty good cover, and you can check out the video below. Oh, complete sidenote: Bands, let's please stop using 'Candle,' 'Light,' and 'Red' in potential names. We've already got RED, REDLIGHT KING, CANDLELIGHT RECORDS, CANDLELIGHT RED, etc...

I'm a sucker for a good cover song, and that's something that I've noted often over the years. In a way, I guess you could say that I'm a 'collector' of covers, with countless compilations devoted to artists putting their personal stamp on another artist's work residing on the shelves and in the files of my personal archives. This week there's a new piece available in the form of A LITTLE LOVE, a 10-song collection of acoustic re-imaginings from RENEE & JEREMY. While the duo is known for their kid-friendly works, A LITTLE LOVE is really an album for both kids and grownups alike.

Putumayo Kids has announced a May 22, 2012 release date for the latest entry in their acclaimed 'Playground' series. COWBOY PLAYGROUND is a collection of a dozen western-flavored favorites from an assortment of artists, packaged with a 24-page booklet featuring archival photos from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming.  The Rock Father has the tracklisting and cover art below, along with a preview of the full album via Bandcamp!

Renee Stahl and Jeremy Toback, collectively known as RENEE & JEREMY, will release their new album of family-friendly cover songs on May 8th. Of the tracks featured on A LITTLE LOVE, the first to get the video treatment is a rendition of the COLDPLAY classic ''Yellow.'' I've got the video embedded for your viewing enjoyment below, but damn if it didn't bring a tear to my eye in it's depection of parenthood - ending with the little bird leaving the nest, flying off toward those yellow stars. With a two-and-a-half year old here and another on the way, I'm not quite ready to think of that part of the journey just yet.
