Between toys and music - the stuff my girls and I are checking out now, along with all the retro goodness that I tend to get into, a lot of weird stuff crosses our paths and enters our space. Tonight I've got a sonic oddity to share, one that takes the 1980s MY BUDDY dolls (the inspiration for "Chucky" of the CHILD'S PLAY movies) and the accompanying KID SISTER that Playskool made, and gives their famous theme a "metal" spin. Check that out below, along with similar treatment given to classic commercials for JUICY FRUIT and SKIP-IT, each made by Shaun Callaghan of GIVE ZOMBIES THE VOTE. It reminds me of LESS THAN JAKE's TV EP

NICKELBACK will forever be a platinum-selling whipping post for internet jockeys and snark-meisters that can't get enough shots fired at Chad Kroeger and Co. The latest bomb tossed in their sonic direction comes courtesy of THE HELL, who have covered the 2001 hit, "How You Remind Me," to new levels of perfection and glory. Watch and listen below...

For the past few years, the crew over at Roma Music Group has been releasing lullaby albums based on the biggest names in music through their Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star line - a collection that I've covered extensively here on THE ROCK FATHER. What had been flying under my radar until recently is a line of tributes they've been releasing by the MIDNITE STRING QUARTET. Now, string tributes are nothing new, but the library that Roma has assembled here is impressive. Already, they have releases based around DEFTONES, METALLICA, PANTERA, SLIPKNOT, ASKING ALEXANDRIA, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and more - with albums based on the works of ADELE, PARAMORE, FALL OUT BOY, PANIC AT THE DISCO, RADIOHEAD and more due out within the next few weeks. Take a look at the rundown of what's out, all available on iTunes and Amazon.

Over the past few years, I've covered a lot of lullaby tributes to popular artists here on THE ROCK FATHER, but tonight is really special as I'm getting to break the news on what is undoubtedly the lullaby album of the year - Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star: LULLABY VERSIONS OF FAITH NO MORE. Set for release on September 16th (pre-order on iTunes), the crew over at Roma Music Group have reworked a dozen FNM classics into nursery-friendly instrumental jams for baby.  This is an exceptionally exciting release for me, as it's my favorite band of all-time getting the lullaby treatment. Check out the lullaby version of "Falling to Pieces" below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

I don't think I'll ever be able to stop writing about FROZEN here on THE ROCK FATHER. In fact, it's almost unbelievable that the movie only hit theaters nine months ago. That said, Idina Menzel's now iconic rendition of "Let It Go" continues to inspire, with over six million (I made that number up) cover versions currently posted to YouTube. Now, I've noted on several occasions that my favorite comes from THE LAST SLEEPLESS CITY, who rocked it up Pop Punk style a few months back (hear it here), and that hasn't changed - but I guarantee you haven't heard "Let It Go" like I'm about to share. From Sumerian Records comes BETRAYING THE MARTYRS' metallic take on the song. It's harsh - not kid-friendly, and might turn some of you off, but I dig what they did with the chorus around the 1:01 mark. The dueling clean/harsh vocals are interesting, indeed. Check out the new video below, and if you dig the song, download it on Amazon or iTunes.
