Funk. Yep, catch me when the time is right, and I very well might be "The Funk Father." I've always had an affection for proper 70s funk and soul - even trying to work some of those grooves into my own jams back in that strange time called "The 1990s." My Dunlop Cry Baby Wah Wah pedal got a workout in those days, and while most of what I did went in some weird punky-metal direction, my own musical schizophrenia diversity has always led me to enjoy many types of music, despite "rock" being home base. One band I've dug comes straight out of Dayton, Ohio, and there's a good chance that even if you don't know THE OHIO PLAYERS, you'll recognize their music - hits like "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster" (covered in '96 by THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS). Now, four of the original Ohio Players (Drummer James ‘Diamond’ Williams, Keyboardist Billy Beck, Guitarist Clarence ‘Chet’ Willis and Percussionist Robert ‘Kuumba’ Jones) are back in the studio working on a new record with an energized line-up and they're seeking some crowdfunding help to make it happen. Check out the details on the new album, RESET below, along with The Ohio Players' IndieGoGo pitch...

If you're a regular reader of this site, then you probably already know that FAITH NO MORE is not only my favorite band of all-time, but essentially the reason why I am who I am today. With their first album since 1997's ALBUM OF THE YEAR confirmed last September, today comes the official title, release date and tracklisting. On May 19, FAITH NO MORE will release SOL INVICTUS via Reclamation Recordings/Ipecac Recordings. The release will arrive just days after wrapping up their first U.S. Tour in nearly 18 years - a tour I was lucky enough to snag tickets for during a much-frenzied pre-sale window. Check out the SOL INVICTUS tracklisting below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

What a great day this has been. FAITH NO MORE, my favorite band of all-time, has officially announced that their first album since 1997's ALBUM OF THE YEAR will be released in April of 2015. This is HUGE news, and the first single will be released via Record Store Day's Black Friday event (11/28/14) when a limited-edition (5,000 copies) 7" vinyl of the song "Motherf**ker" hits the streets. Can I line up for this now?

Last August, I mentioned that CRAZYTOWN was back into the ring, the latest in a growing number of bands from the late '90s/early '00s that have been making their presence known once more. Now, with a new album looming, the band has announced a handful of U.S. dates on the West Coast, followed by a run of European dates that includes stops at some high-profile festivals like DOWNLOAD and ROCK AM RING. Check out the details below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER....

It was thirteen years ago that I bought THE FAINT's DANSE MACABRE? That's the realization that hit me tonight when browsing my emails to find the announcement that THE FAINT's first album since "ceasing to exist" in 2008 is about to hit the streets on April 8. DOOM ABUSE (pre-order now on iTunes) will be released by SQE Music, and today the music video for the first single hit the net. Check out "Help in the Head" below...

It's very appropriate to see bands like INFORMATION SOCIETY regrouping and returning to their roots... hearing how many current "alternative" acts have just been aping the 1980s new wave and electronic movements without due credit. Ahead of their summer 2014 album, _HELLO WORLD, Paul Robb (synths), Kurt Larson (vocals) and James Cassidy (bass, keyboards) will be releasing a new single called "Land of the Blind" on March 4 (via HAKATAK International), but you can check out the lyric video today, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...
