Crank This: PRONG - "Ultimate Authority"

What a wonderful time we live in. Yesterday started off as a simple Friday, but by the end of the day there was a new album from CLUTCH, a new single from KILLING JOKE, and a surprise new single from the mighty PRONG. Three of my favorite bands, indeed - but that PRONG (one of my Top Five Favorite Bands of All-Time) single was a shining cherry on top of an already fantastic week here at Rock Father HQ. "Ultimate Authority" was released on the eve of PRONG's North American Tour with DANZIG, which kicks-off tonight in Tempe, Arizona, and finds PRONG frontman Tommy Victor doing double-duty, as he also serves as Glenn Danzig's longtime guitar player. "Ultimate Authority" is the first single from PRONG's new studio album, X (No Absolutes) to be released worldwide January 29, 2016 on Steamhammer/SPV.

On May 13, one of my favorite bands (in my Top 4 of all-time, actually) will release their newest album, when PRONG unleashes RUINING LIVES. Today comes the first lyric video from the record, "Turnover," which can be viewed below.  RUINING LIVES will be released as a limited Digipak version that includes 1 bonus track and a poster, as a double gatefold colored vinyl version incl. 1 bonus track and the CD in cardboard sleeve, and as a standard CD version and download.

While listeners eagerly await the May release of RUINING LIVES, the new studio album from PRONG, a previously-unannounced surprise arrived earlier this month with the release of UNLEASHED IN THE WEST: LIVE IN BERLIN - THE OFFICIAL BOOTLEG. Recorded live-in-the-studio at Trixx in Berlin, the basic tracks and overdubs were completed over the course of three days during a break in the band's Summer 2013 European Tour. The end result is a furious collection of 17 classic PRONG tracks that span the band's entire career.

One of my top five favorite bands of all-time has a new record hitting the streets on May 13, when PRONG releases RUINING LIVES. Just two years after the release of the excellent CARVED INTO STONE (which I reviewed here on THE ROCK FATHER). Produced by PRONG mastermind TOMMY VICTOR with Steve Evetts (SEPULTURA, HATEBREED) there to add "his shine" to the record, you can imagine that I'm more than a little excited. Here's what Victor has to say about the forthcoming release...

PRONG will released new album CARVED INTO STONE tomorrow, and if you've read my review (which I certainly hope you did), then you already know that you need to own it. Today, the band has released their first video from the new set, one for ''Revenge... Best Served Cold,'' the song that I noted as being the first prong jam since 1996's ''Rude Awakening'' to properly secure a space alongside songs like ''Prove You Wrong,'' ''Beg to Differ,'' and ''Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck,'' as a true PRONG classic. Take a look via Carlos and the gang at Noisecreep...

PRONG - CARVED INTO STONE (Album Review)

''I hate nostalgia,'' declares PRONG frontman Tommy Victor when discussing CARVED INTO STONE, the eighth full-length studio album to bear the band's name. ''But this record literally has  every strand of PRONG's DNA spliced together in a way that feels more exciting than it has in some time.'' While it's commonplace and cliche for bands to tell you how much better their new album is when compared to their last, Victor's sentiments on the new PRONG record are no mere creation of a PR hype machine. They're both accurate and important for longtime fans and new listeners alike. Like it or not, ''nostalgia'' is a large piece of the PRONG experience for many listeners, myself included.
