Covered: New Years Day Channels SUICIDE SQUAD in "Gangsta" Video...Written by James Zahn
When it comes to "critical" opinion, I'm in the group that really enjoyed David Ayer's DC Comics adaptation, SUICIDE SQUAD. In addition to the film itself being enjoyable in an almost-music-video kinda way, I really dug the soundtrack. It didn't fit the mold of what a superhero film usually receives, much less one from a universe typically known for sweeping cinematic scores. The fourth single from that record was "Gangsta" by Kehlani, used as a representation of the relationship between Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and The Joker (Jared Leto). On this summer's PUNK GOES POP VOL. 7, New Years Day put their spin on the track, and now we've got an official video that finds Ash Costello channeling Harley, right down to an appearance of the classic suit straight out of Batman: The Animated Series.
